Vaping, or using e-cigarettes, is harmful to your health for many reasons.

These include
chemical exposure, nicotine addiction and increased risk of cardiovascular problems, for
example heart attacks, strokes, and lung constriction.
Vaping involves inhaling vapours from an e-cigarette, which contains nicotine and other
harmful chemicals such as acrolein, coolants, formaldehyde, glycerol, propylene glycol and
diacetyl. The most well known chemical found in cigarettes and e-cigarettes is nicotine.
Information from the ADF (Australian Drug Foundation) states, 'nicotine is a stimulant drug
that speeds up the messages from the brain to the body'. When nicotine is inhaled, the amount
of dopamine released increases, positively changing a person's mood. This feeling can
become addictive, leading to dependence on vapes. Using e-cigarettes on a regular basis can
lead to long term health issues such as severe lung injuries (e.g. lipoid pneumonia),
respiratory impairment, heart attacks and strokes. Not only does the chemical acrolein
contribute to heart disease, but it is also a chemical found commonly in weed killer. Diacetyl
can also be found in certain vape flavours and cause irreversible scarring and constriction to
the lungs (popcorn lung/obliterative bronchitis). Information from BTN states that although
glycerol and propylene glycol are safe to consume, it can still cause harm if inhaled. In
addition, vaping can also affect a person's social life and relationships, as they may prioritise
vaping over spending time with friends and family. It is also costly ($3-$50 per vape) and
causes disruption in relationships. For these reasons, people should abstain from using e-
cigarettes.
