I. Read the passage below and answer the questions 1-5 by choosing the correct answer from the
given alternatives and write your letter of choice on the answer sheet.
Wind, rain, heat, and cold were the enemies of early man. At first, man tried to escape from storms and
rain in caves or in any sheltered places he could find. It took a long time for man to think of building
houses to protect himself from the wind and rain.
The weather was also the enemy of early sailors. A sudden storm could destroy their boats and the
people in them. Early farmers were often worried about weather changes which might destroy their
crops. Even today, farmers are afraid of bad weather conditions which might harm their years work.
In the past, people in most countries believed that rain and the sun were gods in order to make the gods
do what they wanted. So they used to dance and perform plays to try and bring rain and sunshine when
needed them.
The weather still affects our lives in many ways today. For example, the way in which we travel may be
changed by the weather. During the dry season you may take a bus or truck from one town to another
but during the rainy season.

your letter of choice on the answer sheet.
The aroma of brown injera
Fresh and hot from the oven
Wafts through the air to my nose
Round and flat like a large pancake
Arouses my appetite for some breakfast
I love to tear pieces of the injera
And swallow mouthfuls of the same
With my little brothers silently giggling
Amused at the speed with which I do it
Mother can never stop making injera
For me to eat at breakfast and lunch
That's what always makes my day
Injera, injera, food for the day
