Proposal for Smart Automated Irrigation System Project
This proposal provides a comprehensive overview of the project, including its description, target
audience, components, technologies to be used, proposed budget, and business value.

1. Description of the IoT System and Target Audience:

The smart automated irrigation system aims to enhance water efficiency in agricultural practices by
automating the irrigation process based on real-time environmental conditions. The target audience for
this project includes small-scale farmers, gardeners, and individuals interested in sustainable agriculture
practices. By leveraging IoT technologies, we intend to provide a cost-effective and user-friendly solution
to optimize water usage and improve crop yields.

2. List of Components and Their Functionalities:

a) Soil Moisture Sensors: These sensors measure the moisture content in the soil, providing crucial data
for determining when irrigation is required.

b) Microcontroller: The microcontroller receives data from the soil moisture sensors and controls the
irrigation system accordingly. It acts as the brain of the system.

c) Water Pump: The water pump is responsible for supplying water to the irrigation system when
triggered by the microcontroller.

d) Solenoid Valves: These valves control the flow of water from the water source to the irrigation
system. The microcontroller activates the appropriate solenoid valves based on the sensor readings.

e) Phone Interface: The phone serves as the user interface, allowing users to monitor and control the
irrigation system remotely. It provides real-time information on soil moisture levels and enables manual
control of the system.

3. Description of Technologies to be used:

a) IoT Platform: We will utilize an IoT platform that enables device connectivity, data collection, and
remote management of the irrigation system. This platform will facilitate seamless integration and
communication between the microcontroller and the phone interface.

b) Wireless Communication: The microcontroller will communicate with the phone interface via wireless
communication protocols such as Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, ensuring convenient and reliable data
transmission.

c) Mobile Application Development: We will develop a mobile application compatible with both Android
and iOS platforms. The application will provide an intuitive interface for users to monitor and control the
irrigation system effectively.
4. Proposed Budget of the Project:

Our proposed budget for the smart automated irrigation system project is as follows:

- Soil Moisture Sensors: $5

- Microcontroller: $15

- Water Pump: $30

- Solenoid Valves: $15

- Miscellaneous Components and Tools: $25

- Contingency: $20

Total Budget: $110

NB: budget estimation provided above is approximate and subject to change based on market prices
and project requirements.

5. Business Value:

The smart automated irrigation system offers several business values, including:

- Water Conservation: By automating the irrigation process based on real-time data, the system reduces
water wastage and promotes sustainable water usage in agriculture.

- Increased Crop Yields: By maintaining optimal soil moisture levels, the system ensures that crops
receive adequate water, leading to improved growth and higher yields.

- Cost Savings: The system optimizes water usage, resulting in reduced water bills for farmers and
gardeners.

- User Convenience: The phone interface allows users to monitor and control the irrigation system
remotely, providing convenience and flexibility.
