TASK ONE (10 Marks)

Create a word wall (or list of words) of AI-related terms, and demonstrate an understanding of
them.

The word wall must include 20 words or phrases that relate to Artificial intelligence
and must have a clear definition of what the word or phrase means.

AI related word or term. Definition or meaning.

Machine learning gives AI the ability to learn. This is done

1 Machine Learning by using algorithms to discover patterns and generate
insights from the data they are exposed to.

2 AI The simulation of human intelligence processes by

machines, especially computer systems.

3 Deep Learning A subset of ML that makes the computation of multi-

layer neural networks feasible. It is responsible for
advances in image and speech recognition.

4 Neural Network A series of algorithms that endeavors to recognize

underlying relationships in a set of data through a
process that mimics the way the human brain operates.

Natural Language Processing The ability of a computer program to understand human

5 (NLP) language as it is spoken or written.

Cognitive Computing Simulates human thought processes in a computerized

6
model, involving self-learning systems that use data
mining, pattern recognition, and NLP.

Robotics A field of engineering focused on the design and

7
manufacturing of robots. Robots are often used to
perform tasks that are difficult for humans to perform or
perform consistently.

Computer Vision The ability of machines to visually interpret the world

8
around them, with the goal of understanding an image or
a sequence of images.
Expert Systems Computer systems that emulate the decision-making
9
ability of a human expert in certain fields.

10 speech Recognition The ability of a machine or program to identify words

and phrases in spoken language and convert them to a
machine-readable format.

Chatbot A computer program that simulates human conversation

11
through voice commands or text chats or both.

Autonomous Vehicles Vehicles capable of sensing its environment and

12
operating without human involvement

Data Mining The process of discovering patterns in large data sets

13
involving methods at the intersection of machine
learning, statistics, and database systems.

Reinforcement Learning An area of machine learning where an agent learns to

14
behave in an environment, by performing actions and
seeing the results.

Supervised Learning A type of machine learning where the model is provided

15
with labeled training data.

Unsupervised Learning A type of machine learning where the model is not

16
provided with labeled training data.

Semi-supervised Learning A type of machine learning where the model is provided

17
with a small amount of labeled data and a large amount
of unlabeled data.

Turing Test A measure of a machine’s ability to exhibit intelligent

18
behavior equivalent to, or indistinguishable from, that of
a human.

Generative Adversarial A type of machine learning where the model is provided

19 Networks with a small amount of labeled data and a large amount
of unlabeled data.
20 Facial Recognition Face detection, also called facial detection, is an artificial
intelligence (AI)-based computer technology used to find
and identify human faces in digital images and video.

Task 2 (15 Marks)

Students are to consider the 18 computer operations that are listed below
and indicate whether or not the task is using AI and justify your reason.
Your results need to be tabulated in the table attached

Task Is It AI? Detailed Justification for this

TASK THREE FOR STUDENTS… (12 Marks)

Students are to identity 3 computer operations that use AI used in their

home on a regular basis. (Note … examples can be inspired or even taken
from the list above if that helps).
Students are to explain why the item they have include is an example of
AI. List in general terms the functioning of the “intelligent” process(es) and
finally explain how the task would need to be performed without the use
of AI?

Name of Why is this How does it How would the

operation AI? function? (In task be
general terms) completed
without AI?

TASK FOUR FOR STUDENTS… (13 Marks)

Students are to read the statement below and write a 300 word argument
that supports their viewpoint. Students are required to give three (x3)
examples to justify their case. (i.e., 100 words per example).

STATEMENT …

There are many risks with the ongoing development of AI technology

in our world. Very careful consideration needs to be given to ethical
principles, privacy concerns, cyber security and other potential
damages that may occur. However, the benefits of AI are also
numerous including improving efficiency, safety and communication,
which can positively impact our world.
