ASSIGNMENT 7 (Summary): Thoroughly summarize and reflect upon your entire 10 hour Field Observation Placement.

>>>

Before my field observation, I had to email the principal and the front
desk manager in order to receive permission to observe a classroom.
In the email I explained the situation and asked to schedule a time that
I could come in. The front desk manager got back to me within
minutes. She told me I was on the list sent from CSN, and Mrs.
Sequeria (my own 2nd grade teacher) already requested me to be in
her classroom. She told me I could come in on Thursday of that week,
and then schedule the remainder of my visits with Mrs. Sequeria when
I first met with her. The day before my visit, I printed the documents I
would need and picked out a business casual outfit. On my first day, I
walked into the front office, signed in, received a visitors sticker, and
then was walked (by the front desk manager) to Mrs. Sequeria’s
classroom. I greeted Mrs. Sequeria and explained that I have to
complete 10 hours of observation. She told me she had a student from
CSN last year as well, so she was already familiar with this
assignment. She sat me down at a desk in the corner, and I started my
observation. I watched the students do their ball ringer opening. As I
observed, I completed my assignments. I followed my teacher as we
took the kids to lunch, recess, and specials. Whenever the kids were
not in the classroom, I asked Mrs. Sequeria the interview questions.
She was very insightful and detailed when giving her answers. When
the first day was completed, I said goodbye to the students and
planned my next visit with my teacher. I came back a few days later,
and did much the same thing. Mrs. Sequeria is a teacher that is very
scheduled and appreciates routine very much. After my second (and
last) day, Mrs. Sequeria gave me the filled out time log and evaluation.
I thanked her and gave her a basket of things she liked to thank you.
Overall, I am very glad to have had the opportunity to observe a real
classroom. I feel like this assignment is very important to future
teachers. This really gives us college students a grasp of what a day of
work would look like. Real life experience is my favorite way to learn,
so I am happy to be assigned this module.
