D R E A M S - DREAMS

We dream in two different ways; asleep and awake.

When we dream as we sleep we do not have direct or conscious control to what we are about to dream
of, on how it will start or end.

But it is a different story when we dream wide awake.

"Hey little kid, what do you want to become when you grow up?"

Many people would asked us this question several times when we were younger.

And as kids we impulsively respond, " Oh I want to be a teacher! A business man! A doctor! I want to be
this and that!"

And those dreams change from time to time as we get older.

Until a moment strucks us, and then you and I becomes conscious of what we really dream to be.

As far as I remember, the moment I realize what my dream is, my heart started beating faster similar to
how our heart beats fast when we fall in love. You feel the eagerness to achieve that dream and you get
motivated to do things. You start to picture out scenarios of how happy your life can be when that
moment comes. The day you realize what your dream is, becomes the most exciting and meaningful
moment of your life. However, it also becomes the day you realize that it is never easy to dream.

One time, there was this young dreamer. At first, all she thought was that the only thing she is good at
was studying. She cannot do sports, dances, nor even sing. She was a bit envy of others because they
found something they love to do and they are good at. She asked herself, "What can I do aside from
answering my teachers queries and tasks during classes?"

But then, she found something that warms her heart. Something that helped her discover a part of her
identity that she never knew before. The young dreamer loves to paint. She found her dream. She
wanted to live her life creating paintings. And guess what happened to the young dreamer? She got
laughed at, the dream that took her years to find got mocked and questioned.

"That dream cannot feed you!"

"You are not born with privilege to live such world as that!"

Those are the words that broke the heart of our young sweet dreamer.

Now I want you all to imagine, we are in a very dark room and then I took out a candle or a flashlight.
Now this candle I have with me, is my dream which guides me in this life full of uncertainty. Without this
light, without this dream I have with me, I would find it hard to decide which path I should go.

And now I want you to imagine, instead of a dark room, we are in this lighted room. Now what would I
do next? I would turn off my flashlight and put it away because the surrounding tells me that I no longer
needed it.

This lighted room, is like our society my friends. It tells us things. It tells us the standard. It tells us what
dreams we can and what we cannot afford to have simply based on how privilege we are or not. It told
the young dreamer that her dream will only starve her to death. With that, most people would listen to
it and put off their burning dream, instead of allowing the light from their candle of dream to lead them
to the path they ought to take in the first place. Others would end up allowing the society or someone
else to take the lead.

But the young dreamer was different. She did not put out the fire from her candle.

Famous artist was also told how their dream is a mere fantasy and that it would only starve them; Van
Gogh, Monet, and more.
Yes these artists are from a well off family but they did not receive any support from them. But these
artists chose to take the lead in and this shows how one's success is not about privilege, it is about
determination and belief. The young dreamer's dream of being an artist was mocked and questioned by
the society, but instead of changing path, she took those mockeries as a proof that she is indeed an
artist because this is what her respected artists went through.

My friends, our dreams are different from fantasies. People fantasize the things they only wanted to
have without any determination. While dreams are done with determination and passion. The path to
our dreams may not be easy. There will be a lot of bypassers who would either motivate or discourage
us. However, my friends remember, we only get to live this life once, so instead of living it working on
other people's dream, let us spend this life living for our dreams, for ourselves, for every young dreamer
that lives inside us.
