Individual Sports
– It requires self - monitoring skills.
– An individual sport is one in which an individual competes directly or indirectly against other
individuals.
○ Examples : Running, Walking, Gymnastics, Swimming

Athletics
– The beginning of athletics started in the prehistory times when people use several skills for
survival.
– Running and sprinting were practiced to catch food or to hunt.
– Over time, these skills were developed into sports which is called individual sports

Events in Athletics
– Throwing Event : Discuss Throw
– Running Event : Sprinting
– Jumping Event : Long Jump

Dual Sports
– Dual sports are partner play. To achieve the success of the game, co-players must attain a
harmonious play and deal with each other.

Badminton
– The sports Badminton was originated in India which was known as Poona.
– It is played over a net using a racket and a shuttlecock.
– Players must possess speed, power, and good agility skills to win the game.
– It can be an indoor or outdoor played by men or women in singles or in double match.

Facilities and Equipment of Badminton

Court
– The court is rectangular in shape with a measurement of 40 mm wide.
– The lines are preferably white or yellow to be identified easily.

Post and Net


– The post is 1.55m in height and the net is made of fine cord of dark color and even thickness.
It has depth of 760mm.

Shuttle
– The shuttle has 16 feathers fixed in the base that is firmly fastened with thread.
– It has a length of 64mm to 70mm with a base of 25mm to 28mm in diameter.
– It has weight of 4.74 to 5.5g

1. Handle
○ Intended for the grip

○ Where the player hits the shuttle

○ Bounds the stringed area

○ Connects the handle to the head

○ Name given to the head, throat, shaft, and handle

Basic Skills in Badminton


1. Correct gripping
○ It is made near the end of the handle.
● Forehand
○ considered as the universal grip. the player forms “V” using the tumb and index finger.
● Backhand
○ the hand holding the racket is slightly raised along the top of the handle except the
tumb to allow the racket to push through the air for greater speed and force.
2. Ready Position
○ The weight is on the balls of the feet with knees slightly bent.
○ Elbows are held at a distance away from the body and at the racket is diagonally across
the upper part of the body.
3. Footwork
○ Forehand shot
◆ left foot is forwarded near the net
○ Backhand shot
◆ right foot is forwarded near the net
Types of Service
1. Long Short
○ shuttle falls beyond the short service line.
2. Long High
○ shuttle falls within the rear boundary line.
3. Drive
○ The quick flip that makes the shuttle falls directly to the desired spot.

Team Sports
● A team sport includes any sport where individuals are organized into opposing teams which
compete to win.
● Team members act together towards a shared objective.
