Practice exercise: Create view templates


In this exercise, you will create a view template
and adjust the view properties for the template.
You will also add a view filter to the template.
Then you will assign the view template to views.

Learning objectives:

• Create a view template.


• Create a rule-based filter.
• Assign a view template to views.

1. Open the exercise file

2. Create a view template based on the
GROUND FLOOR view. In the View tab,
Graphics panel, select View Templates
> Create Template from Current View.

3. Name the view template FLP-


Architecture and then click OK.

4. In the View Templates dialog, click Edit


next to V/G Overrides Model.

5. In the Visibility/Graphic Overrides
dialog, in the Model Categories tab,
turn off the Visibility for the Site
category.

6. In the Visibility/Graphic Overrides


dialog, in the Annotation Categories
tab, turn off the Visibility for the
Reference Planes and Sections
categories.

7. In the Visibility/Graphic Overrides
dialog, in the Filters tab, click Add.
Then in the Add Filters dialog, click
Edit/New.

8. In the Filters dialog, create a new filter


and name it Walls-Fire Rating. Assign
it to the Walls category and use the
following rule: Fire Rating equals 2 hr.
Then click OK to close the Filters
dialog.

9. Back in the Add Filters dialog, select
the Walls-Fire Rating filter and then
click OK.

10. Make sure the filter is enabled. Then


change the Cut Lines color for the filter
to Red. Click OK to close each dialog.

11. Press Ctrl and select both GROUND
FLOOR and SECOND FLOOR in the
Project Browser. Then click the button
next to View Template in the Properties
palette.

12. In the Assign View Template dialog,


select the FLP-Architecture view
template and click OK. Check each view
to make sure the view template is
assigned.
