My Goal Attainment

Looking at my goal and going through my weekly reflections I think that I have worked hard at
my goal.

I learned that conclusions take time to work on and improve. My original issue was that I was
not leaving enough time in my lesson to fit in a quality conclusion. As I started to figure out my
students and their abilities along with how long each activity would take them, I had the time to
do a conclusion. Then came the process of working towards improving my conclusions.

The process of trying to improve my conclusions started out with talking with both of my UC
and my TA. We talked about how often conclusion can be small and involve basic questioning. I
used a lot of different questioning techniques to elicit student knowledge and provide a review
for the students. I tried various questioning techniques. I used KWL charts, the 3W’s, what are
you favourite things that you have learned, what are the top three things that you have learned,
and asking specific question to review concepts. I also used objectives on the board to circle
around to. As an example, when the students were using the writing process, we would recall the
steps on the board as an introduction and then the questioning would revolve around the steps in
the conclusion. I also tried using exit slips and the snowball formative assessment/conclusion.

What I learned from trying everything is that the students did the best and tried the hardest when
they found the conclusion activities engaging. As I continue to work on my goal of creating
quality conclusions, I will continue to strive towards using creative activities in my conclusions.
I saw how successful the snowball activity and that made me realize that although questioning is
the quickest and most effective way to conclude lessons, students responded incredibly to the
slightly more complicated but more engaging activities. For next time, I would take more risks
and try more of those conclusion activities that seemed intimidating to me.
