Course Objective: The course is designed to familiarise the students with prose forms produced in the English language outside England. The course
is a mixture of wide spectrum of short stories and essays that is either written in English or translated to English. Works in translation are also now
considered equally as an important category of literary studies. Perspectives on Indian nationhood and culture, questions of language (coloniser’s),
aesthetics, gender and sexuality, religion forms the major themes of the course.

Prerequisites: Successful completion of History of English literature is desirable.

Student Learning Outcomes:
After the completion of the course the students will be able to
• Describe the texts from different parts of India based on the historical context in which it is written
• Examine the narrative techniques, styles, forms, themes, etc. employed by Indian writers in English and
• Understand the movements and trends that have become decisive in the evolution of prose forms in a pan-Indian perspective

Pedagogy
• The course will be taught in an interactive manner.
• Lectures will be delivered that will include the various themes and the style and technique employed by the writer to highlight the
issues.
• The students will be given seminar papers with a goal to develop the capacity for independent action, initiative, and responsibility.
