Hydrocarbon molecules
• Saturated: Hydrocarbons that have only single
bonds are called saturated.
• Unsaturated: If they contain one or more
double bonds then they are called
unsaturated.
Paraffinic/Alkane molecule
• Saturated carbon chain with single bond
between the carbon atoms.
Naphthene/Cycloparaffin molecule
• Closed circle with saturated bonds between
carbon atoms.
Aromatic/Benzene molecule
• Closed ring with some unsaturated bonds of
carbon atom.
Asphaltic molecule
• It has 40 to more than 60 carbon atoms.
• It is brown to black in color.
• Semisolid at surface condition with high
boiling point.
