Section B:

1) (a) Beta radiation

(b) Radioactive ray R
(c) Ray P, ray Q, ray R
(d) Gamma ray

2) (a) Resistor
(b) The voltage will be lower.
(c) Voltage = 6A x 4 Ω
= 24 V

3) (a) (i) Wire X allows electric current to flow to the device.

(ii) yellow and green
(b) (i) Earth wire
(ii) These electrical appliances use low amount of voltage so current will not leak
Easily.

4) (a) W = Fs
= 10 000N x 3m
= 30 000J
(b) P = W / t
= 30 000J / (2 x 60) s
= 30 000J / 120s
= 250 W

5) (a) (i) Artery

(ii) Blood vessel P transports oxygenated blood from the heart to the whole body
except the lungs.
(iii) Blood vessel P transports oxygenated blood from the heart to the whole body
except the lungs while blood vessel Q transport deoxygenated blood from the
heart to the whole body except the lungs.
(b) (i) Coronary heart disease
(ii) The doctor should suggest the patient to drink more water, eat more fruits and
vegetables and eat less processed food.
(iii) Water, chicken, rice and vegetables

6) (a) (i) Aluminium reacts with oxygen to make aluminium oxide. It needs to be in a place
that lacks oxygen or any other element to be in the form of pure aluminium.
(ii) Carbon is less reactive than bauxite while bauxite is more reactive than carbon.
(b) Electrolysis
(c) (i) Destruction of habitat due to construction of mines
(ii) Sound pollution from mining machinery
(iii) Soil erosion
(d) Bauxite dust particles are very small so animals might consume it by accident. The
bauxite dust particles will continue to pass through every animal in the food chain until it
reaches the end consumer.

7) (a) Elastic potential energy

(b) Elastic potential energy = ½ x 6N x (8-4 / 100) m
= ½ x 6N x 0.04m
= 0.12 J
(c) (i) Kinetic energy = ½ mv2
= ½ x 50kg x (6 ms-1)2
= 900 J
(ii) 900 J = (50kg x 10 ms-2) x h
900J / (50kg x 10 ms-2) = h
H = 1.8 m
8) (a) (i) Carbon monoxide
(ii) Tar can blacken the lungs. Cigarette tar can also cause many diseases like lung cancer.
(iii) The chemical contents of the smoke inhaled by passive smokers are higher than active
Smokers so the effect will be more harmful. It will also cause diseases.
(b) The harmful substances in cigarettes will cause abnormal blood pressure. Smoking will
increase the systolic blood pressure by a lot.
(c) The amount of cigarette smoke will be reduced causing air pollution to decrease. People
would also be less lean to smoke with this rule. Passive smokers will also be less common so
they won’t inhale the harmful cigarette smoke.
