TANJUNG HARAPAN AND SEIKONYER VILLAGE

Tanjung Harapan is the first station in the park.


It was established as intensive benefit zone where there were many artificial facilities
such as guesthouse, information center and forest guarding post.
Initially, Tanjung Harapan was a place for orangutan quarantine and rehabilitation. But
now, Tanjung Harapan is functioned as ecotourism location where feeding activities of
ex-rehabilitant orangutan as the main attraction. It is done at 9 a.m.
Across from Tanjung Harapan, there is a village named Seikonyer. Administratively,
Seikonyer village is located in Kumai, because the location is bordered with the national
park area. It is become a supporting point of Tanjung Puting national Park area.
Before that, Seikonyer village is in Tanjung Puting National Park area, and then
at 1975, it is moved to outside of Tanjung Puting National Park area. Since 2007,
Seikonyer village was established as Conservation Village Type that is trained by
Tanjung Puting National Park Association.
Besides cattle rising, agricultural and handicraft aids, Tanjung Puting National Park
Association has given four home stay aids for supporting accommodation service for
visitors. By this, the local societies were hoped able to read the effort opportunity
that can be caught by the situation of tourist activities crossing their village, so they
are not only become the object of the tourism only. Therefore, the negative pressure /
interaction of local societies to Tanjung Puting National Park area will be lack.
