CHAPTER 03

METHODOLOGY

I. Research Design
The study's dual nature in terms of data collection and analysis makes it a descriptive-
qualitative-quantitative study. It focuses on intellectual and learning disabilities for children
with special needs and inclusive learning and resource centers/services in Quezon City.

First, by giving a thorough rundown of the suggested center, the study takes a descriptive
approach. It provides a thorough explanation of the services, facilities, instructional methods,
and special attention to children with learning and intellectual disabilities that are envisaged.
By stressing an efficient center's unique qualities and the customized support it aims to offer,
this descriptive element contributes to the creation of an accurate and comprehensive image
of an ideal facility that will serve the city’s vision.

Second, the researcher determined the key persons whose inputs are necessary for the
verification of the empirical data and the justification of the study. Their in-depth knowledge
on the subject matter will further contribute to the assessment of the needs of the target-users
which can aid in the design process in the latter part of the study.

Third, the study uses a quantitative approach for data collection and analysis. The proposed
approach involves the utilization of surveys, questionnaires, and structured data collection
tools to obtain quantitative data regarding the demand for resources and support services, the
incidence of intellectual and learning disabilities in the Quezon City region, and the unique
requirements of the intended audience. The quantitative approach makes it possible to
measure important factors like the quantity of potential beneficiaries, the interest level of
parents, and the degree of community support. The feasibility and potential impact of the
proposed center can be objectively evaluated by the study through the utilization of numerical
data, which offers valuable insights for its development and implementation.

The integration of descriptive, qualitative, and quantitative methodologies amplifies the

study's capacity to comprehensively examine the feasibility and importance of an inclusive
learning and resource center in Quezon City.
II. Method and Strategy
To ensure the accuracy and comprehensiveness of the study, careful consideration must be
given to the materials used for data collection through surveys and interviews. The materials
that could be used are listed below:
a. RAW MATERIALS
 Paper – where the researchers will print out the questionnaires, consent forms, and
other necessary papers to push through with the primary data gathering.
 Ink – what will be used for printing.
 Notebooks and Pens/pencils – what the researcher will use for note-taking during
data analysis and interviews.
 Envelopes – what the researcher will use to segregate responses depending on their
categories.
 Staple wires/stapler – what the researcher will use to compile the necessary forms
and questionnaires.
 Laptop/PC – what the researcher will use to transcribe audio recordings of
interviews.
 Highlighters – what the researcher will use to highlight the common/similar themes
in the respondents’ responses.
 Post-it Tabs – what the researcher will use addition to the highlighters to not the
similar themes in the respondents’ responses.

b. FOR SURVEYS
 Questionnaire – A structured survey created especially to gauge community
members' expectations, needs, and perceptions about the demands of inclusive
development services and a proposed center among parents, caregivers, educators,
and other relevant stakeholders. Multiple-choice, open-ended, and closed-ended
questions with rating scales should all be included in the questionnaire in order to
collect both quantitative and qualitative data.

c. FOR INTERVIEWS
1. Interview Protocol – a structured interview protocol that specifies the questions to
be asked important stakeholders, including parents, teachers, and specialists in
inclusion and special education. To collect detailed qualitative information about
their opinions, perceptions, and recommendations about inclusive learning and
development services, the protocol must be extensive and customized.
2. Audio Recording Equipment – with participants' permission, audio recording
equipment should be used to ensure complete and accurate data collection during
interviews. This makes it possible to accurately record and analyze the responses
from the participants.

The choice of resources for this study should take into account the goals of the
investigation, ethical issues, and the particular data required to evaluate the viability and
possible effects of the suggested inclusive learning and resource center in Quezon City.
The systematic, moral, and thorough collection of data requires careful planning and
preparation of these materials.

III. Selection
a. SETTING
The setting for the primary data collection of the study can be described as follows:
 Quezon City, Philippines – the study's principal geographic focus was the
metropolis of Quezon City, Philippines.
 Community-based settings - The following community-based locations in Quezon
City will host data collection activities:
o QC Kabahagi Center for Children with Disabilities – the only public ILRC
in the city, the research aims to make it a model to pattern the proposal
after; to include their inputs on the demands for inclusive and development
services for the targeted users and determine which district is has a higher
need for the project.
o Online Communities – social media groups and Facebook groups may be
the setting for parent surveys with caregivers of children with intellectual
and learning disabilities.

o QC Local Government Units – interviews with representatives of the local
government or those working in the fields of education and special needs
services to obtain pertinent information and insights.

To protect study participants' privacy and well-being, informed consent, and

ethical considerations will always come first in data collection settings. The
settings span a broad spectrum of locations in Quezon City, thereby facilitating
the acquisition of varied viewpoints and information from multiple stakeholders
who are integral to the proposed inclusive learning and resource center.

b. RESPONDENTS
1. Parents/Caregivers – people with personal experience looking for support and
educational resources for their children.
2. Local Government Representatives – representatives or officials from Quezon City
local government offices in charge of community development, special needs
