The sashes of the Alumatherm sash window can be glazed / reglazed easily in under 15 minutes per sash. Tools re-
quired are a flexible bladed Stanley knife (snap blade type is best) and a thin bladed putty knife. You will need a work-
mate bench with folded dust sheet to rest the sash on whilst you work. A spray mist water bottle will assist in the glass
to tape stage. A white soft rubber mallet will help knocking beads into place.

Replacement 1mm x 9mm black glazing tape should be ordered from our spares dept prior to start. Wrist protectors,
protective goggles and glass proof gloves should be worn. Take your time and work slowly. The tape has a very strong
bond and must be completely cut in order to remove the glass.

Using the tilt in method statement remove the sash requiring replacement glass and lay on your bench with the external
face upwards (this is the side with the puttyline bevelled detail around the perimeter)

Insert thin blade at least 9mm between the glass and tape. Slowly pull
the blade along the sash and cut the tape around the sash. Cut clock-
wise then anti clockwise to ensure the tape is completely cut through.
Pay particular care at the corners. If the sash has multiple astragal
bars we recommend a replacement sash be ordered unless you re-
move all the bars for retaping and reattachment after glazing.

When the tape has been cut and the glass separated from the sash
turn the sash over so the inside (beaded side) is now facing upwards.
Remove the keeps if a top sash. Insert knife blade between glass and
bead and repeat the cutting method.

Pencil mark the beads with their location. Using a thin pallet or putty
knife locate the end of the blade between bead and sash profile. This
point has a micro groove in the extrusion to act as a guide for your
knife tip. Push downwards to unclick the bead from the sash.

Start on the side vertical beads first. Start in the middle of the bead
length. Lever the bead out of its sash groove. Remove the beads and
scrape all black foam from the glazing faces. Retape the bead using
GROOVE
fresh tape. If some residue is left of the old tape this will not hurt but
try and remove as much as possible. BE ACCURATE WITH THE
TAPE AND DO NOT PLACE ABOVE THE SEEN EDGE.
Down
Turn the sash over again and push down on the glass unit which will
drop out of the sash rebates. Turn sash over and scrape off the black
foam tape. Replace with new tape.

Check your glass is the correct size and thickness (24mm). Remove Lever
the release paper from the tape and stand the sash vertically against
a supporting object. Ensure the sash is square by measuring diago-
nals.

Ensure the glass rest packer is in place at the bottom of the sash.
Spray water mist on to the tape surface. Ensuring the low e face is on
the inside of the frame sit the glass onto the rest but do not allow to
touch the tape. Align the unit and push the unit from the bottom work-
ing upwards onto the tape. Remove tape on top and bottom beads,
spray tape with water and knock back into place. Repeat for side
beads.

Re fix keeps using a flexible shaft screw driver. Re hang sash in to

outerframe and test for tilt and slide.
