Junichiro Tanizaki is a Japanese writer working since 1909 in erotic-style prose with sado masochism and
feminist murderous themes. In many of the stories by Tanizaki, the personal life of the Meiji era writer is
depicted. In addition to the prose published at that time, Tanizaki also wrote screenplays for dramas and
films in black and white format. Strongly inspired by the works of European writers such as Edgar Allan
Poe, Charles Baudelaire, and Oscar Wilde, Tanizaki began his career as a novelist in 1910 with his first
work "Tatu" (Chissy).
Tanizaki is a native of Nihonbashi, Tokyo obsessed with Western culture, which entered Japan at that
