1. What makes good formative assessment?

2. Differentiate summative assessment from formative assessment?
3. What is the main purpose in making student’s portfolio?
4. Give example of student portfolio assessment?
5. What type of questions would you ask in the classroom?

ANSWERS:
1. In order to make the required instructional adjustments to reduce
the gap between students' existing understanding and the desired
goals, effective formative assessment requires gathering evidence
regarding how student learning is developing over the course of
instruction. Students can learn about their strengths and
weaknesses with the use of formative evaluations. They now know
which exact areas require improvement. A teacher and student are
closer together, and you arrive just in time to assist the pupil on
their journey.
2. Both summative and formative exams give students the
opportunity to demonstrate their understanding of the material.
Summative evaluation is used to evaluate "how much" a student
has learned after an academic unit or program has ended, whereas
formative evaluation measures how a student is learning while they
are enrolled in an educational program of study.
3. Student portfolios are used to evaluate students' learning and give
them a way to consider their own development. Additionally,
student-led conferences can make use of portfolios as a tool. A
portfolio is a collection of materials from your academic and
professional careers that demonstrate your values, competencies,
education, training, and experiences. It offers perception into your
character and work ethics.
4. For portfolio assessments, instructors or students are asked to
compile examples of their work that demonstrate development
over time. Work products include things like collections of student
writing, artwork, lab reports, or reading logs. To evaluate
portfolios, we utilize scoring criteria and rubrics.
5. Assessment for learning training, we will know that questioning in
the classroom in the classroom is a powerful formative assessment
tool. Executed properly, higher order questions from the classroom
teacher gives the teacher the opportunity to gauge student
understanding of the topic as well as enabling students to actively
participate in their own learning. Good questions also lead to good
class discussions, better student interactions, and ultimately, the
shared understanding that is part and parcel of the learning
experience.
Examples:
1. Are you sure?
2. How do you know?
3. What do you notice?
4. What’s the same and what’s different?
5. Can you convince me?
6. I think I understand what you mean, are you
saying?
