BSTRACT

In many universities all over the country, computer engineering and embedded systems designs are
being seriously neglected for many reasons, including a lack of equipment and materials for teaching. In
this project, our main aim is to solve this pressing issue. Young people and students in Nigeria are
entering a new era of technology in which embedded system design are becoming more accessible and
affordable. We want to encourage more growth in embedded systems education to promote
technological advancement in the country. This aspect becomes essential in a university laboratory,
where students have to work with different types of embedded systems

INTRODUCTION

With the advancement in the applications of integrated circuits, electronics industry especially
embedded systems have developed enormously. Embedded products are being used almost everywhere
in our daily life such as in industry products, in offices and in homes as well.

The microcontrollers are used in diverse applications, which include but are not limited to laser printers,
fax machines, smart phones, displays, Global Positioning Systems, intelligent devices, military
applications, vehicular applications, etc. Consumer electronic is also an application of the
microcontroller. Moreover, CD players and microwave ovens also use of microcontrollers in their designs.
The realization of communication devises is not possible without the use of microcontrollers.

We can interface multiple devices by using different types of options present in the microcontrollers. It is
also possible to access or send data to and from a microprocessor via a microcontroller, which will be
achieved in this design. We can interface a microcontroller with virtually all possible electronic devices.
The microcontrollers are also employed in timer, event monitoring, pulse generating, pulse shaping, and
timing and interrupt circuits. Timers and counters are used in many real life applications such as traffic
signals and counting of an event. With the use of interrupts, a microcontroller appears to perform more
than one task at the same time while executing the code linearly.

As complex as it may seem, embedded system simply involves the interconnection of different peripheral
devices to a microcontroller which will act based on the program that has been stored within. The
embedded system trainer will offer such interchangeable connections in order to achieve the wide array
of purposes that the embedded system can achieve in real-life.

The idea behind this design is to introduce such kind of facility for developers to get involved in the
practical application of the 8051 microcontrollers in real life using various types of components within
the same electronic system.

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM

In our universities today there is significant evidence of a theory-based learning strategy which may be
found in several institutions nowadays. However, in order to properly understand and furthermore
implement the concepts being taught in our discipline, it is necessary to have practical experience. An
important foundational element for the implementation of a practical-based learning approach is the
use of microcontroller systems and test/simulation kits. This then raises questions like:

● Are these microprocessor/microcontroller kits available?

● Are these microprocessor/microcontroller kits affordable?

●How can universities integrate practical based learning, such as that described using microcontroller
test kits with theoretical concepts?

PROPOSED SOLUTION

●This project will ensure the development of a microprocessor/microcontroller based training kit that
will allow for several embedded systems practical applications by students in the university.

●The simple yet intricate design coupled with the absence of overcharged brand will make for a low-cost
yet extravagant trainer module

●This one of a kind trainer module will better help the students better understand the application of
various programming languages that are taught in class; like C, python, assembly language e.t.c.

SCHEDULE, COST AND DESIGN REVIEW

The proposed project can be completed in about 16 weeks. A working schedule will be agreed
upon once an order is placed. The workings will be scheduled in consultation with you. This
schedule will be updated with dates at the beginning of the design no later than the first design
review meeting.
