1 a. 1) Language and dialect are closely related. That is, language is always
related to the dialect of each region. The relationship between language
and dialect are social status, activity, geographical area, age, gender and
profession.

2) Dialect is the style/dialect used by a community to distinguish one

community from another.

b. The difference between dialect and language is that dialect is part of


language. dialect is more specific to a particular area/region which is
relatively smaller. while the language is more commonly used by the
wider community.

3 a) The meaning of language variation is that in reality the language we use in


everyday living is remarkably varied. Language variation is a general term
for any distinctive form of a language or linguistic expression.
Linguists commonly use language variety (or simply variety) as a
cover term for any of the overlapping subcategories of a language,
including dialect, register, jargon, and idiolect.
1) Language and society
Example : speaking on the telephone or face to face, writing a letter or
sending an email massage, reading the newspaper, or interpreting a graph
or a chart.
2) Nature, culture and language
Example : make the application form, write the business letter, or the
political pamphlet.
b) Nature refers to what is born and grows organically.
Culture by contrast is not bound by biological time.
Culture makes the rose petals in to rare perfume, purchased at hight cost,
for the particular, personal use of a particular lady.

4 The proses of language variation


Social conventions, norms of social appropriateness, are the product of
communities of language users. Poem and readers, florist and lovers,
horticulturist, rose press manufacturers, perfume makers and users, create
meanings throught their words and action.

The differences of some aspects of language variation is differences in language

styles according to culture, nature and language. relating to differences in regions,

professions, activities and daily life.
