The House of the Scorpion Hero Cycle

1. The Ordinary World: Matt lives with Celia, Matt’s caregiver in her cabin in
Opium-- a strip of poppy field lying between the United State and what was
once called Mexico.
2. Call to Adventure: The Call to Adventure is when Matt hears a voice calling.
Matt soon comes in contact with these children. The children question him
and leave. Matt was filled with both fear and joy.
3. Refusal of the Call: When the children came to Matt’s home, he didn’t know
how to react. Matt refuses to show his face to the window, to meet those
children.
4. Meeting with the Mentor: Matt meets his mentor, Tam Lin when El Patron
helps Matt find a good bodyguard.
5. Crossing the First Threshold: When the children come back again with their
little sister, Matt decides to meet them. Matt sues Celia’s pot to break open
the window. Matt then grabs a chair and jumps out the window, but he then
gets hurt with the shattered glass.
6. Tests Allies, Enemies: Matt’s test in the room where Matt has been kept.
This where Rosa puts him there because he is a clone. Allies are Maria and
Celia. Matt’s enemies are Rosa, his jailor, and Tom.
7. Supreme Ordeal: Matt’s darkest moment is when El Patron is demanding for
his transplants to keep him alive, but Matt escapes.
8. Revisiting the Mentor: Matt remembers the old teachings of what Tam Lin
said to him. Matt remembers that no one can tell the difference between a
clone and a human.
9. Return with New Knowledge: First Half: When Matt learns the mistakes of
the Alacran estate, he teaches his new knowledge to others like Chacho and
Fidelito. Second half: When Matt and Chacho were still stuck in the pit,
Ton-Ton uses the shrimp harvester to help them out of the pit to go to San
Luis.
10. Seizing the Sword (or prize): Matt was able to do defeat the keepers with
Esperanza’s help. The keepers went to jail and the Lost Boys have been
freed.
11. Resurrection: Matt finds out finds Opium has been in lockdown for three
months and that he is the new El Patron. Matt is the new ruler of the country
Opium.
12.Return with the Elixir: Matt finally returns to the country of Opium with the
freedom to live. Soon Matt finds out that everyone except Daft Donald had
drunk the wine, including Tam Lin. Soon they fell and died. Now Matt, as
the new leader of Opium, has to resolve all the problems in Opium, but he
will have Celia and Daft Donald to guide him. Matt also has his friends to
help him along his way.
