Related Manuals
This manual has been specifically prepared to guide you through the steps
required to successfully set up and use your MAC-LAB Report Transfer system
software. If you have questions concerning the installation, configuration, or
operation of the MAC-LAB system, we suggest that you first consult the
documents listed in Table 1.
System Requirements
Hardware
The MAC-LAB Report Transfer program requires a PC with:
• A Pentium central processing unit (CPU) with 8 MB of RAM (minimum
requirement)
Or:
A Pentium computer with 16 MB of RAM (for optimal performance)
• A hard drive with at least 50 MB of available disk space (recommended)
NOTE
The number of discharged reports
that can be stored prior to distribution
is limited by the amount of available
hard disk space.
Software
Microsoft Windows for Workgroups 3.11 must be set up and running on your
computer prior to installing MAC-LAB Report Transfer. See your Windows
documentation for instructions on installing and running Windows for
Workgroups 3.11.

Overview
When MAC-LAB Report Transfer acquires a patient report, it moves the report
to a temporary storage location and adds it to a list of available reports. All the
acquired reports displayed are available for transfer.
MAC-LAB Report Transfer delivers patient reports to up to five different
destinations. After a report has been successfully transferred to all configured
destinations (see “Transfer Destinations” on page 14), the report is removed
from the storage location and the list of available patient reports.
If a failure is encountered during a transfer to any of the configured destinations,
retry efforts continue until a successful transfer is made, or there is user
intervention. The failed patient report transfer is listed in the Current Retry
Queue (see Figure 8 on page 16).
When a failed transfer is being retried, the computer emits a sound (beep), and
the status light in the MAC-LAB Report Transfer main window is red. During
the retry effort, the patient report remains in the storage location, but is removed
from the list of available patient reports in the MAC-LAB Report Transfer main
window.
All transfer activity is logged in the Report Transfer Log (see Figure 7 on page
15). All reports that fail to be transferred to all configured destinations remain in
the Current Retry Queue until successfully transferred or deleted from the
Queue.
Menu Bar
The menu bar is located at the top of the MAC-LAB Report Transfer main
window. The menu bar can be used, along with the toolbar and buttons, to select
commands. Four menus are available as follows:

configuration settings, and exit the MAC-LAB Report Transfer program.

admitted into a MAC-LAB system.
Status Information
The MAC-LAB Report Transfer main window (Figure 1 on page 6) displays the
following status information:
Reports Transferred
The number of reports that have been transferred. This number is incremented
whether a transfer is successful or not. Patient reports that were not successfully
transferred are placed in the Current Retry Queue and the number in the Reports
in Retry Queue field is incremented. (See “Current Retry Queue” on page 15)
Transfer Mode
The transfer mode (Automatic, Scheduled, Manual, or None) selected on the
SETUP screen. The transfer mode may be configured during or after installation.
(See “Transfer Modes” on page 19)
Transfer Destinations
The defined report transfer destinations. Each destination is defined on the
SETUP screen with a full path and, optionally, a description. Either the path or
the description can be set to display in the main window. The transfer
destinations can be configured during or after installation. (See “Report Transfer
Destinations” on page 20)
Current Status
The status of the transfer activity. A green light indicates that the transfer status
is set to on. A yellow light indicates that the transfer status is set to paused. If a
transfer is unsuccessful (indicating that the network has failed or that a server is
unavailable), the light will change to red and a beep will sound every cycle
interval.
NOTE
Clearing the Report Transfer Log
does not delete patient reports.
CAUTION
If all configured destinations fail to
receive the patient report, deleting
an entry or clearing the Current
Retry Queue erases the only copy
of the patient data.
Online Help
Help is available in both printed and online versions. Select Help Index from the
Help menu to access online Help while using MAC-LAB Report Transfer.
Operating values for MAC-LAB Report Transfer are set up during installation.
Typically, changes in the setup configuration will not be necessary unless there
are changes in the equipment or the operating environment. However,
modifications may be made at any time after installation.
NOTE
Be sure to record your password and
store it in a secure location. You must
type this password the next time you
want to access Setup.
Cycle Time
This setting applies only to the Automatic Transfer and Manual Transfer modes.
The value set for the cycle time is the time interval (in seconds) used to
determine:
• For Automatic Transfer and Manual Transfer – how often to look for
discharged MAC-LAB patient reports and retry failed transfers.
• For Automatic Transfer – the time interval used to determine how often
to transfer available patient reports. (Manual transfers are immediate.)
For Scheduled Transfer, the cycle time used to look for discharged MAC-LAB
patient reports and to retry failed transfers is preset to 30 seconds.
To configure the cycle time, type a number from 15–3600 in the text box.
Transfer Modes
The Transfer Modes setting enables you to specify whether you want reports to
be transferred automatically, on a scheduled basis, on demand, or not at all.
Automatic Transfer
Available patient reports that are listed in the List of Patient Reports list box are
transferred to the configured destinations using the time interval defined in
Report Transfer Intervals.
To select the Automatic Transfer mode, click the Automatic Transfer option
button.
Scheduled Transfer
Patient reports are transferred to the configured destinations using the Day and
Time defined in Report Transfer Intervals.
To select the Scheduled Transfer mode, click the Scheduled Transfer option
button.
Manual Transfer
Reports are transferred to the configured destinations only when you first select
patient reports and then transfer the reports by selecting the Transfer Report
menu item, icon, or button. The reports are transferred immediately.
To select the Manual Transfer mode, click the Manual Transfer option button.
No Transfer
When set to No Transfer, reports cannot be transferred.
NOTE
When the maximum number of
entries is reached, the file of the
oldest entry will be automatically
deleted from the system.
NOTE
This is a standard MAC-LAB directory.
Change this location only under special
conditions.
Exiting Setup
To exit the SETUP screen and return to the Report Transfer main window, click
OK to save changes, or click Cancel to exit without saving any changes.
NOTE
A changed system password will be
saved even if you click Cancel to exit
the SETUP screen.

Transfer files, the Configuration Setup screen appears.
Setup Screens
During installation, you are required to specify certain operating values
(settings), such as parameters and paths. The setup screens, Parameter Setup and
Path Setup, appear after the Installation Location screen or, if you had a previous
installation, after the Configuration Setup screen.
Usually, changes to the program setup are not necessary after installation.
However, modifications may be necessary if there are changes in equipment or
operating environment.
Parameter Setup
On this screen, indicate how and when you want reports to be transferred, and
how many entries you want to store in your transfer log. For information to help
you complete this screen, refer to “Defining the Configuration” on page 18.
Path Setup
On this screen, indicate the system paths where MAC-LAB Report Transfer
looks for report acquisitions and where acquired reports are stored.
Click Continue after you have made your selections. The program files are
copied to the designated directory, and the Installation Complete screen appears.
