x MAC-LAB Report Transfer 415671-011

Rev A (7/98)
Introduction

The purpose of the MAC-LAB Report Transfer software is to manage the

distribution of patient case data reports from MAC-LAB hemodynamic
monitoring system. MAC-LAB Report Transfer temporarily stores discharged
MAC-LAB patient reports on a Buffer Server PC and distributes those reports to
up to five servers or nodes on the network. You can set the patient report
distribution transfer mode to:
• Automatic
• Scheduled day and time
• Manual
• No transfer
When used with MAC-LAB Assistant, reports in temporary storage may be
reviewed or used for admission in MAC-LAB.
The MAC-LAB Report Transfer application runs in a Microsoft Windows for
Workgroups 3.11 operating system.

Key Features of Report Transfer

• Intuitive graphical user interface
• Up to five separate user-defined network server transfer destinations
• Online help documentation
• Storage and distribution of patient report data on MAC-LAB readable
diskettes
• Ability to view patient name and identification information prior to
distribution
• Logging of all network communication activity to facilitate report
distribution management
• Unlimited number of report distribution retry attempts if distribution fails

Introduction

System Requirements
Hardware
The MAC-LAB Report Transfer program requires a PC with:
• A Pentium central processing unit (CPU) with 8 MB of RAM (minimum
requirement)
Or:
A Pentium computer with 16 MB of RAM (for optimal performance)
• A hard drive with at least 50 MB of available disk space (recommended)

NOTE
The number of discharged reports
that can be stored prior to distribution
is limited by the amount of available
hard disk space.

Software
Microsoft Windows for Workgroups 3.11 must be set up and running on your
computer prior to installing MAC-LAB Report Transfer. See your Windows
documentation for instructions on installing and running Windows for
Workgroups 3.11.

Safety Information
Responsibility of the Manufacturer
Marquette Medical Systems, Inc. is responsible for the effects of safety,
reliability, and performance only if:
• Assembly operations, extensions, readjustments, modifications, or repairs
are carried out by Marquette-authorized representatives.

Rev A (7/98)
Using Report Transfer

MAC-LAB Report Transfer manages a temporary database of discharged MAC-

LAB patient report files. The reports that are currently in the temporary database
are listed in the Report Transfer main window.
The MAC-LAB Report Transfer main window (Figure 1 on page 6) displays the
status of the following report transfer activities:
• Reports available for transfer
• Reports transferred
• Transfer mode
• Transfer cycle time (in seconds)
• Available disk space (in kilobytes)
• Reports in the retry queue
• Current report transfer status
• Destination information
• Current date and time
From the MAC-LAB Report Transfer main window, you can perform transfer
functions, access the setup configuration screen, and view an activity log and
retry queue. The menu bar, toolbar, and control buttons provide three
alternatives for making selections. (See the Menu Bar, Toolbar, and Buttons
sections below.)

415671-011 MAC-LAB Report Transfer 5

Rev A (7/98)
Using Report Transfer

Figure 1 Main Window

Overview
When MAC-LAB Report Transfer acquires a patient report, it moves the report
to a temporary storage location and adds it to a list of available reports. All the
acquired reports displayed are available for transfer.
MAC-LAB Report Transfer delivers patient reports to up to five different
destinations. After a report has been successfully transferred to all configured
destinations (see “Transfer Destinations” on page 14), the report is removed
from the storage location and the list of available patient reports.
If a failure is encountered during a transfer to any of the configured destinations,
retry efforts continue until a successful transfer is made, or there is user
intervention. The failed patient report transfer is listed in the Current Retry
Queue (see Figure 8 on page 16).
When a failed transfer is being retried, the computer emits a sound (beep), and
the status light in the MAC-LAB Report Transfer main window is red. During
the retry effort, the patient report remains in the storage location, but is removed
from the list of available patient reports in the MAC-LAB Report Transfer main
window.
All transfer activity is logged in the Report Transfer Log (see Figure 7 on page
15). All reports that fail to be transferred to all configured destinations remain in
the Current Retry Queue until successfully transferred or deleted from the
Queue.

Status Information
The MAC-LAB Report Transfer main window (Figure 1 on page 6) displays the
following status information:

List of Patient Reports

A list of reports that have been acquired and are available for transfer. The
patient ID and name are provided.

Reports Available for Transfer

The number of reports that have been discharged or saved to workstation by
MAC-LAB, but have yet to be transferred to a destination. The number matches
the number of patient reports in the List of Patient Reports.

Reports Transferred
The number of reports that have been transferred. This number is incremented
whether a transfer is successful or not. Patient reports that were not successfully
transferred are placed in the Current Retry Queue and the number in the Reports
in Retry Queue field is incremented. (See “Current Retry Queue” on page 15)

Transfer Mode
The transfer mode (Automatic, Scheduled, Manual, or None) selected on the
SETUP screen. The transfer mode may be configured during or after installation.
(See “Transfer Modes” on page 19)

Transfer Cycle Time

The time interval (in seconds) used to determine how often to look for
discharged MAC-LAB patient reports. For Automatic Transfer, it is the time
interval used to determine how often available patient reports are transferred.
The cycle time is also used to determine how often failed transfers are retried.
Cycle time can be set to any value from 15–3600 seconds (1 hour). The transfer
cycle time can be configured during or after installation. (See “Report Transfer
Intervals” on page 18)

Available Disk Space

The disk space in kilobytes (Kbytes) that is available for the temporary storage
of reports.

Rev A (7/98)
Using Report Transfer

Transfer Destinations
The defined report transfer destinations. Each destination is defined on the
SETUP screen with a full path and, optionally, a description. Either the path or
the description can be set to display in the main window. The transfer
destinations can be configured during or after installation. (See “Report Transfer
Destinations” on page 20)

Current Status
The status of the transfer activity. A green light indicates that the transfer status
is set to on. A yellow light indicates that the transfer status is set to paused. If a
transfer is unsuccessful (indicating that the network has failed or that a server is
unavailable), the light will change to red and a beep will sound every cycle
interval.

Logs and Queues

MAC-LAB Report Transfer maintains a log and a queue to help you manage
report distribution. The Report Transfer Log records transfer activity; the
Current Retry Queue lists the failed transfers that are waiting to be retried. You
can access the Report Transfer Log and the Current Retry Queue from either the
View menu or the toolbar.

Report Transfer Log

The Report Transfer Log records all transfers, both during a report acquisition
and during a transfer to a destination. Other activities, such as transfer failures,
deletes, pauses, resumes, startup, shutdown, and setup are also logged.
The log can be viewed, and if no longer needed, can be cleared. When you select
Clear, you are asked for confirmation. Select No if you decide not to clear the
log.

NOTE
Clearing the Report Transfer Log
does not delete patient reports.

Rev A (7/98)

Figure 7 Report Transfer Log

Current Retry Queue

MAC-LAB Report Transfer retains any unsuccessfully transferred patient
reports and continues to retry transfers at the configured cycle time until all
destinations have received the report, or the user deletes the report from the
Current Retry Queue. The Current Retry Queue lists the stored patient reports
that have not been successfully transferred and are waiting to be retried.
The Retry Queue can be viewed, and if no longer needed, an entry can be deleted
or the entire Queue can be cleared.

CAUTION
If all configured destinations fail to
receive the patient report, deleting
an entry or clearing the Current
Retry Queue erases the only copy
of the patient data.
