Basics Of Social Services
1. Introduction
 Social services are different kinds of help for people who need support. It can be things
like healthcare, money help, help for families, or support for older people and those with
disabilities. The goal is to make life better for those who need extra assistance.

2. Methods Of Social Services


 Social Case Work: Helps one person at a time by understanding their issues and finding
ways to help in their community.
 Social Group Work: Helps a bunch of people work together happily by making sure they
support each other in their group.
 Community Organization: Gets different groups in a town to team up and make life bette
r for everyone living there.

3. Types of Social Service Activities


o There can be many social service activities. Some of the social service
activities which can be undertaken are as under:-
o Education.
o Family Welfare, Medical Care, Family Planning and Nutrition.
o Provision of Water and Cooking Fuel, Roads, Electricity and Sanitation.
o Old Age Support Systems.
o Employment.
o Social Assistance, Social Security and Care & Protection.
o Housing and Rehabilitation.
o Recreation, Sports and Social activities.
4. Contribution of NCC Cadets
o NCC cadets individually or in a group can make significant contribution in
this field:-
o If a student helps a blind man cross a road it is a service done to humanity.
o A group of students can render service to people ravaged by flood, cyclone,
famine and earthquake.
o Students are educated and they can remove superstition, blind faith,
ignorance of the illiterate.
o They can help the nation in the removal of illiteracy.
o Students can teach them to take health care.
o They can take active part in the national scheme of afforestation.
o They can look to the sanitation of their own area.
Rural Development Objectives
1. Objectives of Rural Development
 Following are the primary objectives of rural development:-
o To improve the living standards by providing food, shelter, clothing,
employment and education.
o To Increase productivity in rural areas and reduce poverty.
o To involve people in planning and development through their participation in
decision making and through centralization of administration.
o To ensure distributive Justice and equalization of opportunities in the society.
2. Important Rural Development Programmes
 MGNREGA

o MGNREGA started in 2005 to make sure rural families get work for at least
100 days each year. Its main goal is to help families in villages by giving
them jobs and building things like roads and water structures to make life
better.
 Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY)
o PMGSY started in 2000 to build strong roads in villages. Its main job is to
make it easier for people in villages to reach places like hospitals, schools,
markets, and jobs by building good roads that work in any weather
 National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP)
o NSAP started in 1995 to give money to older people, widows, and those who
can't work because of disabilities. Its main job is to help these vulnerable
groups by giving them some financial support when they need it.
 Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojna
o SAGY started in 2014. It's about Members of Parliament choosing villages to
make them great examples by improving different things like schools,
healthcare, and roads. The goal is to make these villages better in every way
possible
 Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna
o PMAY started in 2015 to help folks who need homes they can afford. By
2022, it wants to give houses to people with low incomes or who are
financially weak. It helps by giving money and supporting eco-friendly ways
of building homes all over India
 Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana
o Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana started in 2015. Its main goal is to give life
insurance to Indian citizens at a low cost. If something happens to the insured
person and they pass away, their family gets financial help
 Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojna (PMKSY)
o PMKSY started in 2015. Its main goal is to help farmers by making sure they
have enough water for their crops. It wants to improve irrigation and make
more land available for farming
3. Social Security Schemes of Government
o Government of India has launched three new mega social security schemes.
These schemes intend to widen the process of financial inclusion in the
country to include Atal Pension Yojana (APY), Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti
Yojana (PMJJBY), and Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY).
 Atal Pension Yojana (APY)
o Atal Pension Yojana (APY) started in 2015. Its main goal is to help people
who work in informal jobs by giving them a fixed pension after they retire.
 Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY)
o Established in 2015, the main objective of the Pradhan Mantri Suraksha
Bima Yojana (PMSBY) is to provide affordable accidental insurance
coverage to Indian citizens, offering financial support in case of accidental
death or disability.
