Amnesty International is a global movement that advocates human rights and fights injustices.
Students who have a passion for campaigning and pushing for equal rights meet together to
discuss current matters, including (but not limited to) human/LGBTQ2+/women’s rights, torture,
unlawful detainment, and the death penalty. Amnesty International also conducts events to
fundraise and raise awareness for these global issues among both students and our community.

Anime & Manga Club

This club is created, in the first place, to show the real picture of Islam and to highlight issues

Badminton Club

A club where any players, regardless of skill level or prior experience, can come and enjoy
badminton with friends or other students. Coaches will be coming in to scout new potential
athletes for the school’s official competitive badminton team that starts in the spring season.

Bird Watching Club

Bird Watching Club is a club dedicated to helping and discovering birds in the greater
Vancouver area. We will volunteer at birst rehab centers and sanctuaries, and arrange
transportation to these areas, and organize meetings for spotting rare birds of BC. Bird lovers
always welcome!

Burnaby North Singers

A group of singers who meet two times a week to rehearse: Monday at lunch and Thursday

Burnaby North’s business club focuses on fostering our future generation about business
literacy. We deliver our members with knowledge regarding case competitions and prepare
them with the skills to successfully crack a business case.

Cantonese Club

We aim to provide an environment for students to learn about the Cantonese culture, including
language, food, etc. It is our mission to establish new opportunities for students to acquaint

Card Game Club (MTG Team)

We invite all card game fans (especially MTG players) to join our club. We occasionally
supervise tournaments and provide prizes. Having fun is the main purpose of this club. We are

Chinese Culture Club

For our Chinese Culture Club, our purpose is to promote Chinese culture and celebrate
traditional Chinese events like Chinese New Year, Dragon Boat Festival, etc. We also want to
make friendly, inviting environment for those who are interested in learning Chinese language
and Chinese culture.

Christmas Cheer

Established in 1989, Christmas Cheer is the longest running service club at Burnaby North.
Christmas Cheer raises money every year for the Burnaby Christmas Bureau, a charity that
provides food, clothing and more to low-income families in the community. Every year, this club
strives to raise over $10,000 for the Christmas Bureau, so join us Wednesdays at lunch in the
gallery or room 211 to spread the cheer!

CHS (Covenant House Support) Club

Covenant House Support Club raises money for homeless youths living on the streets of
Vancouver. These victims have gone through emotional and physical abuse, human trafficking,
and sexual assault. In response to this, we gathered a group of passionate students who want
to dedicate their time and effort into volunteering and fundraising for this cause.

Climate Change

Climate Change Club is made up of like-minded students whose goal is to fight for climate
action. Through focusing on activism and running different initiatives we hope to make small but
impactful changes in our community.

Combo Club

The Combo Club is a club for anyone that wants to learn/play jazz combo music. No jazz
experience is required, however, it is recommended to have at least one year of experience.
The meetings will consist of world class jam sessions and other fun activities.

Cooking Club

The cooking club will be focusing on pans, pots, and hands-on foods with little to none baking
components. We want to include culture in our foods and cook foods from all around the world.
Our “goal” would be to learn about different countries’ foods and make new friends doing it.

Dance Club

Dance Club is a group of highly passionate students who work hard after school and at lunch
hours to improve their dance skills. We mainly focus on hip hop and k-pop but welcome a

variety of other styles as well. We also perform in events like Fine Arts Week, the Dance Show,
and Clubs Day to enhance our performance abilities and confidence.

Debate Club

Destination Imagination is a competition in the US which includes Fine Arts, Science,


Technology and other topics. In the D.I. club, we will practice and rehearse for this competition
and we welcome you and anyone who wants to be creative!

DIY Club

The Dragon Boat Club is made up of students who enjoys going out to False Creek and

BNS Drone Club

The Drone Club is where students will learn about drone technology, electronics, and coding.
It’s a chance to meet new people and share ideas. Students will also learn to build, solder, and

Embrace Club

Embrace Club is always open for International students and new comers! We love to help
students by translating, tutoring, writing birthday cards, and so on. Our team creates and
manages exciting events such as pumpkin carving, gingerbread house decorating, valentine ice
cream gathering, and so many more delightful parties! Also, you can help newcomers by
volunteering during the orientation day and international meetings. If you are still struggling
whether to join this club or not, come see us!

Enviro Club

Enviro Club encourages sustainability and raises awareness about environmental concerns.
Students at Burnaby North can create a better environment within our school community. We
meet Tuesdays after school in room 110. Everyone can help volunteer with paper and bottle
recycling every week and also work in our school garden.

eSports Club

eSports club, we do a variety of different fun activities, both inside and outside of school. We
strive to strengthen the eSports community to bring together people with similar interests! Some
things we organize are tournaments, viewing parties for competitive games, and much more!

Fine Arts Council

The Fine Arts Council is dedicated to promoting the arts at our school and in our community. We
play a key role in many annual events and celebrations. Anyone interested in taking part and

Fishing Club

The Fishing Club is for fishers of all skill levels who care about protecting B.C.’s fish. The club
will fundraise for fish conservation programs in B.C. organize river/beach cleanups, etc.

Game of Apps

Game of Apps is a program that guides students through the process of designing and creating
mobile apps from scratch. Local professional developers and designers volunteer their time to
teach the students how to use the same tools, techniques, and processes as the industry. At the
end of the 24 week period, students will pitch their apps to a team of judges, with the top teams
moving on to compete at the provincial level.

Gender Sexuality Alliance Club

Grade 11 Council raises money for grads of 2021 through various sales and fundraisers we will
be holding meetings weekly. We hope to motivate students to get involved in their grade

Japanese Club

Japanese Club is an inclusive and friendly club that focuses on introducing Japanese language
as well as Japanese culture to school community. We host various activities such as Karaoke
sessions, origami folding session, cultural presentation, games like “shiritori” and more! This is a
safe and welcoming place for everyone. Free snacks are also provided. We meet every Monday
after school in room 4.

Karing 4 Kids

Karing 4 Kids is a group that fundraisers for the Make-a-Wish-Foundation, which grants children
with critical illnesses a “wish”. Throughout the year, we host fundraisers, and in April, we have

our annual Karing 4 Kids week and carnival for elementary school kids. Volunteers can learn
about these events from our meetings at lunch and online through our Instagram account.

Key Club

Burnaby North’s key club focuses on engaging members to share back to the community
through services and fundraisers. We focus on specific district projects in meetings and present
to our members about global issues that we fundraise for. Moreover, we give our members
opportunities to go out in the community and do services such as forest cleanup and performing
in retirement homes.

LEO Club

LEO Club focuses on leadership, experience, and opportunity. We fundraise for a chosen
organization every year through multiple service activities, such as Krispy Kreme sales, beach
clean-ups, dog walks, and many more. Members are often given the opportunity to create or
help out with large-scale events, such as our annual Leo Convention.

Make A Difference Club

Math Challengers

A contest-math-focuses club primarily involved in organizing and preparing school teams for the
annual Math Challengers competition. Also organizes seasonal events for various other math

Mental Health Awareness Club

Mental Health Awareness club meets every week to discuss various problems associated with
mental health. All year we work to raise money for the Canadian Mental Health Foundation. We
also work to raise awareness in the school about mental health in an effort to break the stigma!

Mock Trial Club

Come down to mock trial trial if you want to improve your debating skills, learn about the law
and meet new friends! We will be holding weekly practices in preparation for the mock trial
provincials, and there are plenty of roles to fill, whether you want to be a lawyer or a witness.
This is a fantastic opportunity for not only aspiring lawyers but those interested in growing as
leaders and public speakers.

MUN Club

Model United Nations (MUN) is an extra-curricular activity in which students simulate UN


committees. this unique but exciting activity greatly develops researching, public speaking,
debating, and writing skills as well as critical thinking and leadership abilities.

Music Council

Music council is a student-based council that assists the music teachers to make sure that the
students of the music department are having the best experience in the department as possible.
Activities of the council include advertising and planning for our 2 annual concerts, fundraising
for band trips, and also special events like our annual Mother’s Day carnation sales. Everyone is
welcome to join and make Burnaby North’s Music department even greater and stronger!

The Noble Tutors

Student tutors provide tutoring for biology, chemistry, and physics, with subject teacher
available for additional help. Meetings are after school on Monday to Thursday, and main
meeting locations are rooms 111 and 113.

Odyssey of the Mind

The Odyssey of the Mind club is a creative, problem-solving program. Students work in teams of
5-7 to solve a long term problem and a spontaneous problem.

PawsCity Club

PawsCity club is an animal awareness club that aspires to bring awareness to the endangered
animal species around the world. We do food sales to fundraise for our local B.C. SPCA. We
also provide many volunteer opportunities by doing weekly garbage clean-ups around our
community. PawsCity welcomes everyone who cares about animals and will make an impact on
our community.

Pre-Med Club

Pre-Med is a group of Vikings interested in working with the medical field. Pre-Med club helps its
members find volunteer opportunities in hospitals and old age homes, learning opportunities like
first aid and safe talk training and have guest speakers from med schools and hospitals. We
also explore the ethics of medicine and hold an ethical debate at the beginning of every month.
Pre-Med club meets every Tuesday at lunch in room 6.

Trivia Club for Burnaby North! Reach for the Top is a friendly club for all students who are
interested in competing against others in a friendly game of trivia, answering questions about

Red Cross Club

Educating students and raising awareness on the life-saving services of the Red Cross
organization. We host food sales and other events at lunch to raise money in support of the Red

Science Leadership

Science Leadership is a student-run science program that provides opportunities for youths in
grades 4-7 to explore. Science beyond the textbook. Club members meet weekly and find ways
to provide hands-on, interactive experiences for elementary school students in hopes that the
experiences will stimulate interests that they will carry on to the secondary school. The program
also helps make sure the younger students are well prepared for their future science careers
and endeavours.

Ski/Snowboard Team

The ski/snowboard team is made up of a group of students who are interested in ski/snowboard
racing. Students must be able to comfortably ski/board an intermediate run. Races happen on
the weekends in Whistler starting in December.

Small Steps

Small Steps is a volunteer based club, consisted of motivated young teens that help others by
making peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for the homeless every Tuesday and Sunday at
6-9pm at Cariboo Hill Temple (7195 Cariboo Road). The in-school meetings on Wednesday at
lunch in room 206 is signing up for shifts for the month.

Social Impact Club

The Social Impact Club has the objective of bringing a diverse set of community based

Super Smash Bros Club

The Super Smash Bros Club offers students a chance to play and learn about the competitive
side about the Super Smash Bros Series with advances skills most players don’t know, we will

Tea Club

Tea Club is a club that aims to educate people on tea culture and types. We will bring tea of all

Vex Club

Vex Robotics Competition club! We are a group of students who enjoy working with Vex Kits.

Our club hosts mini-hackathons that last 2 hours every week, Friday after school, where we
introduce a theme or workshop that the students can base their projects on. Our goal is for

We Youth Help gives students at Burnaby North to be active and engage their community and
school. We offer students the opportunity to volunteer and perform music at local senior homes.
We also sell sing-a-grams to fundraise for Alzheimer’s research.
Wish Youth Network Society

WYNS is a non-profit, student led organization that aims to provide youth with serious medical
conditions, as well as their families with hope. Through various community activities, we work
with local hospitals to not only raise money and awareness towards healthcare and medical
research but also organize events to help kids in need to get through a troubling time in their
lives!

Young Creators Club

The Young Creators Club is devoted to supporting all creative works at BNSS. Our meetings
take place in Room 22, Fridays at lunch. In 2017, we created the first student made magazine at
our school, featuring written work, visual arts, and photography. We collaborate and help
fundraise to support one another in this student publication.
