Awanama menunjukkan penekanan keberpihakan kami kepada
arsitektur itu sendiri sebagai objek untuk menaungi manusia
dan aktivitasnya (as a container), serta alam dimana arsitektur Instagram:
itu berdiri (as a part of a bigger system, nature). Keberpihakan @awanama.id
ini berarti bahwa capaian utama kami dalam berarsitektur di
Awanama ialah arsitektur yang seharusnya lahir (what the
architecture should be) (that fit in the context), bukan
merupakan keinginan arsitek semata (not what the architect
wanted the architecture to be). Sebagai rangkuman akan nilai
yang kami yakini, yakni "arsitektur ruang untuk semua",
Awanama juga mewakili upaya kami dalam melahirkan
arsitektur yang berkelanjutan (sustainable architecture).

Interlocking Space

The challenge of fitting a substantial number

of rooms and sizable library space into the
existing structural frame of the original house
(within a 20 x 60 ft footprint with an

7 additional 10 x 30 ft extension) meant that

Wong had to navigate the layout of each
space in three dimensions filling in all residual
6 spaces. ‘We planned the spaces and programs

vertically along with interesting interlocking
pocket spaces...within the existing frame
6 under the original roof profile.’

house is extrapolated into 4 stories or 2 loft
accommodation units stacked on top of each
other. The accommodation units are then

compressed into mezzanine floors with

3 staircases winding up and down to link the

various platform levels interlocking all the
accommodation units. ‘The multiple levels of
planes suggest spatial versatility which
2 provides a variety of intimate corners
and interactions.’

creating an iconic volume atop a hill, done in a
HUMA BETANG UMAI way that could maximise the existing contours
By SHAU (2022) without too much cut and fill. The main building
