● Volume Control Temperature (Only for CRX4100A-WE and CRX5300A-WE)
Based on the load, this Machine automatically controls whether to operate two or one refrigerating
compressor.
In general, when the dew-point is higher than the volume control temperature, two refrigeration
compressors would run at the same time; otherwise, only one refrigeration compressor will be
running. When “――-” is set, the “Volume Control Temperature” mode is stopped, and the two
refrigeration compressors will be running simultaneously all the time.

Important
● “Volume Control Temperature” operation mode does not control the dew point. Instead, it controls
the number of refrigeration compressors in operation as the dew point decreases with the change of
the load.
● Since the setting will be saved automatically, there is no need do setting before every use.
● The following circumstances may occur when this Machine operates under “Volume Control
Temperature” mode: Even if the dew-point decreases, one of the refrigeration compressors will not
be stopped, or even if the dew-point increases, one of the refrigeration compressors will not be
started. This does not constitute a breakdown, because in order to protect the refrigeration
compressor, a refrigeration compressor, once stopped, must not be restarted until 3 minutes later,
and once started, must continue to run for at least 10 minutes.

Important
● Turning on and off the power frequently may damage the unit. When restarting the machine, be sure
to wait for at least 3 minutes. Failure to do so will cause the refrigeration compressor to break down.
● Please allow the compressed air to slowly flow in. If the compressed air flows too rapidly, it will push
drained water out of the air outlet pipe or damage the components inside the heat exchanger.
● If the high-temperature and high-humidity compressed air blows out immediately after starting the
machine, please run the Air Dryer at least for three minutes first. Otherwise, non-dehumidified
compressed air will flow in and generate water-droplets.
● The following circumstances may occur when this Machine operates under “Volume Control
Temperature” mode: Even if the dew-point temperature decreases, one of the refrigeration
compressors will not be stopped, or even if the dew-point temperature increases, one of the
refrigeration compressors will not be started. This does not constitute a breakdown, because in
order to protect the refrigeration compressor, a refrigeration compressor, once stopped, must not be
restarted until three minutes later, and once started, must continue to run for at least 10 minutes.

Daily Check
Checking the Auto Drain Trap (AD-5)
Please visually check to ensure the Auto Drain Trap is working normally (it should drain water
periodically) every day.

Important
● Drained water will be collected in the bowl. After the air dryer is stopped, please drain the water
once or twice a week. Turn the drainage knob (found
on the bottom of the water drainer) to the right to
discharge remaining water.
To prevent pipes from freezing in the winter seasons,
remember to discharge all the remaining water after
every use. Be sure to turn the drainage knob to the
left to close after the water is fully discharged.
Check whether the
water is being
Important Drain plug discharged.

● The amount of drained water varies depending on

various working conditions (working pressure etc.)
Please use the needle valve found on the auto drain
trap to regulate the drain interval accordingly. When it
has the optimal setting, you will be able to see the
water surface inside the bowl from outside. (Bowl
should never be allowed to completely fill). Shorter
drain interval would increase air loss, on the contrary Needle valve
longer drain interval would cause the drain water to
accumulate. In addition, rotating the needle valve in
“+” direction would shorten the drain interval, while
rotating it in the “-” direction would lengthen the drain interval.
● If a silent-type auto drain trap is preferred when considering the surrounding environment, we
recommend a float-type auto drain trap (FD-10-A). For details, please see “optional parts and
components” (P46) and contact your dealer.

Important

● Air filter (filtration capacity is 5µm) or DSF (super drain filter) must be installed before the air inlet of
the Air Dryer. Otherwise, the internal heat exchanger of the air dryer will be clogged and cause
break down.
● Use extra care not to connect wrong pipes to air inlet and air outlet. Wrong pipe connection will
reduce the performance of the air dryer and may cause unit to fail.
● When using multiple air dryers simultaneously, the pipeline structure must be designed to allow
steady compressed air flow. For details on pipe construction, please consult a qualified technician or
your dealer.
● When installing valves in the pipe, be sure to use globe valves or gate valve. If any other valves
such as ball valve are used, sudden opening or closing will cause the drained water to be pushed
into the internal heat exchanger, causing internal components to breakdown.
● Use extreme caution during air pipe construction to avoid any intrusion of dust and debris into the
system.
● Depending on the application, install a one-way valve on the outlet pipe for the possibility of
compressed air back flow to the system. Negligence may damage the internal components of the air
dryer.
● When blowing out the air pipe system during pipe installation, adjust valves to avoid rapid pressure
changes in air dryer or use a bypass valve.

WARNING!
● Cooling water pressure should be less than 0.74MPa. If the pressure is too high, it may damage
the machine and water leaks. Water leakage may in turn lead to electric shock.

1. The inlet and out of cooling water are labeled as on the air dryer. Hook the
cooling water inlet and outlet properly.
2. Never fail to install a bypass valve (bypass circuit) between the inlet and outlet of cooling water, and
install an air purge and drain valve to the both of inlet and outlet port. If the air dryer is used in a
cold-weather environment where there is a possibility that cooling water may freeze, you may need to
drain the cooling water from the air purge and drain valve. These valves and bypass circuit are
necessary to clean the water condenser.
3. Install union couplings at the inlet and outlet port respectively.

Important

● Never mistake the inlet and outlet port of the cooling water pipes, or cooling capacity may be
decreased.
● Installation of a strainer or water filter before the cooling water inlet is recommended in cases where
water quality is below a certain level. Consult your dealer for more information.

To prevent unit failure from corrosion

 Unit failure from corrosion

Unit failure caused by corrosion will not be covered by the warranty.
Copper tubes are used for refrigerant gas pipelines and internal heat exchanger pipelines. When
those copper tubes corrode, it may result in unit malfunction or unit failure such as water leakage
from the compressor’s air outlet due to refrigerant leakage. In addition, if coppers in the cable cords
corrode, it may result in dangerous accidents such as electric leakage or unit failure.
Therefore, to avoid such failure, it is quite important not to install the unit in an environment that
may corrode copper.
The copper tubes in the heat exchanger are especially vulnerable to corrosion if any substances that
corrodes copper enters the tube, and the substances becomes concentrated after repeating
condensation and drying processes. Therefore, extra cautions are required when selecting
installation location and air to be used in the compressor.
Important reminders when selecting the installation location
The air emitted from factories may contain NOx (nitric oxide), Sox (sulfur oxide) or CO2 (carbonic
acid gas), which may possibly promotes corrosions within the tubes. Choose the unit installation
location carefully to avoid impact of such substances on the air-dryer and air compressor. If corrosive
substances are used in your factory, use extra cautions to prevent the air dryer and air compressor
from being exposed to those substances. In addition, although this is a rare case but if organic
chlorinated solvents (such as trichloroethylene), formaldehyde or alcohol (Volatilized formaldehyde or
chemicals such as methanol from construction materials) enters the air dryer, it may corrode the
copper tube once it is decomposed with water.
(Ant nest corrosion may occur)
 Examples of corrosive substances:
According to the chemical resistance data of copper, the substances that have a great corrosion
impact are the following:
Aniline, aniline dye, ammonia (wet/moist form), sulfur (dissolution), ammonium chloride, zinc
chloride, hydrochloric acid (HIC), ferric chloride, copper chloride, chlorine (wet form), sodium
peroxide, chromic acid, solution of acetate, potassium cyanide, sodium cyanide, hydrocyanic acid,
sodium hypochlorite, hydrogen bromide acid, nitric acid, ammonium nitrate, copper nitrate, silver
chloride, mercury, mercury salt, lime-sulfur, sodium thiosulfate, potassium dichromate, sodium
dichromate, hydrofluoric acid, hydrogen sulfide (wet form), sodium sulfide, barium sulfide, ammonium
sulfate, ferrous sulfate.

Water selection

How to select the cooling water

In general, underground water, tap water or the water from cooling tower are used as cooling water but
the following points should be checked during selection.
● Use of underground water
When selecting underground water as cooling water source, please contact your local inspection
agencies to check your water quality.
If the water quality complies with following specifications, it can be used without any prior treatment.
● Standard cooling water specifications for condenser use

● “ ” indicates the likelihood of corrosion or scale forming
● The 15 items listed above are only the representative items selected as examples.

Important

● Once the quality of underground water begins to deteriorate, deposits will build up inside tubings
and the cooling capacity will be reduced. Therefore, periodical checking and cleaning are
necessary. As for shore area, underground water is most likely seawater, which cannot be used.
● (Please use the water specification list above as your reference.)

Cooling water
Water selection

 Use of tap water

A pump will not be necessary if tap water is used as the cooling water. Furthermore, from an economic
point of view, it may not be appropriate. In addition, the temperature of the tap water in the summer
can be as high as 30℃ and the water can be cut off suddenly due to increasing consumption from all
walks of life. Therefore please consider the advantages and disadvantages of using tap water.
(Normal dew point temperature may not be reached due to frequent start of high pressure switch)

Important

● If tap water is used as cooling water, it is necessary to install a non-return valve between tap -water
pipe and cooling water pipe of the condenser to prevent the water from back flowing to the
condenser if the tap water is cut off.
● Even if the tap water is used as cooling water, deposits will still build up inside the pipe. Please
check and clean the pipe regularly.

 Use of cooling tower

In the past, well water was often used as cooling water. Nowadays, the regulation on the usage of
underground water has become more and more strict. Consequently new technology has emerged
to solve this dilemma: Rather than wasting costly tap water, a new method known as cooling tower
systems has been introduced. The system uses evaporation potential heat in water effectively
(approximately 698W per one kilogram of water) to run fans to cool down the circulating water, The
fan creates air flow by using the temperature difference between dry –bulb temperature and wet
bulb temperature. As a result, the consumption rate of the supplemental water will be just 1~2% of
the circulating water, which will reduce the cost greatly.

Important

● In an environment where the air contains contaminants (chloride or sulfurous acid) due to air
pollution and the same water being used continuously, even with tap water, corrosive gas will be
dissolved into the cooling water at the time of heat exchanging air and the water in the cooling tower.
When these substances gradually condense, they may corrodes the pipe and sometimes create a
hole in the pipe which can cause great damage.
● To avoid damage like this, the circulating water must be fully replaced on a weekly basis before the
water quality becomes low and the pipe needs to be cleaned thoroughly.
