5 DAY SSB SCHEDULE

AIM

To select candidates suitable to become


officers in the Army, Navy or Air Force
TWO STAGE TESTING

• Stage 1. Screening Test, with the aim of


weeding out the obviously unsuitable
candidates & select the ones with some
potential for Stage 2.

• Stage 2. Test of OLQs (personality) –


suitability/potential to become an armed
forces officer.
COAST GUARD

• Preliminary Selection Board (PSB). Chennai,


Mumbai, Kolkata & Noida.
• Day 1 - Verbal & Non-verbal test. PPT with 80
questions. Answers on OMR sheet. 5 options per
question.
• Day 2 – PP & DT

• Final Selection Board (FSB). Conducted at Noida.


For four days, Psych test, GTO and Interview.
Same as Services SSB.

STAGE 1 TESTING

• OIR. Two verbal and non-verbal reasoning


ability tests (approx 30 minutes each).

• PP & DT. A hazy picture is shown, a story


based on the same is require to be written.
The same is then to be narrated and
discussed to arrive at a common story.
STAGE 1 TESTING
WHAT IS ASSESSED

• Analytical & reasoning ability.


• Ability to comprehend the sit correctly.
• Relevance and depth of the story.
• Written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to convey own point of view
effectively and accept the views of others.
• Level of difficulty higher for non-UPSC
entries – larger numbers.

PSYCHOLOGY TEST (DAY 2)

• Delves in your mind – projective technique.


• A set of four tests:-
• TAT – 12 pictures.
• WAT – 60 words.
• SRT – 60.
• SD
GTO TEST 1 & 2 (DAY 3 & 4)

• Designed to test your personality as part of a


group (group of 6 to 10 candidates).
• Leadership skills – leader or follower.
• Problem solving ability – quality of ideas.
• Social behaviour – good or bad.
• Nine tests over two days – GD, GPE, PGT, GOR,
HGT, Lecturette, IO, CT, FGT.
• Group remains unchanged.
• Physical fitness gets checked incidentally.
INTERVIEW (DAY 2, 3 & 4)

• One to one – 30 to 40 minutes.


• Formal dress – friendly environment.
• Based on your PIQ form.
• CIQs, followed by probing questions.
• General awareness and insight.
• Importance of communication skills.
CONFERENCE (DAY 5)

• Closing address by Psdt/ Dy Psdt.


• All assessors in the conference room.
• Every candidate’s performance is discussed by the
concerned assessors.
• Candidates are called in one by one.
• Routine questions for clear-cut cases.
• In case of doubt or further need for confirmation of the
assessment, a few more questions may be asked.
• Declaration of results and departure/ retention for
medical examination
