Essential Intrapartum and New Born Care

Prior to the patients transfer to DR

1. Ensured that the mother is on her comfortable position
2. Ask the mother if she wants to drink or eat
3. Inform her of progress during labor and give reassurance
and encouragement.

Preparing for Delivery

1. Check the temperature (25-28C)
2. Remove all the jewelry
3. Washed hands thoroughly
4. Arrange the material in a linear sequence
 Gloves
 Dry linen
 Bonnet
 Oxytocin Injection
 Plastic Clamp
 Instrument Clamp
 Scissors
 2 kidney Basin

5. In a separate sequence (for after1st breastfeed)

 Stethoscope for PE
 Vitamin K
 Hepatitis B
 BCG Vaccines
 Cotton Balls

6. Perform Handwashing
7. Put on 2 pair of Sterile Gloves Aseptically

At the time of the Delivery

1. Encourage a woman to push as desired
2. Applied perineal support
3. Called out time of birth and sex of the baby
4. Informed the mother of the outcome

First 30 seconds
1. Placed the baby on a clean towel on the mother’s
abdomen
2. Thoroughly dry the baby for 30 seconds (Face to and head,
downward to extremities)

3 minutes
1. Remove the wet cloth
