Why Leakage Is Important

Per NFPA 13 – 2016 25.2.2.1: Per NFPA 25 – 2017 13.4.3.2.5:

At commissioning Every 3 years
No more than 1.5 PSIG in 24 hours No more than 3 PSIG in 2 hours
starting at 40 PSIG starting at 40 PSIG
0.07 PSIG per hour 1.5 PSIG per hour

NFPA 25 allows over 20 times more leakage!!

Why Leakage Is Important (Cont.)
• Nitrogen generating systems are designed to accommodate the
NFPA 13 leakage rate, NOT the NFPA 25 leakage rate!
• All systems should be leak tested before installing a nitrogen
generating system.
• To regulate leaks until the leakage rate is at or below NFPA 13
requirement
• Failure to do so can result in:
• Low air signals
• Unwanted system trips
• Increased compressor run time
• Shorter nitrogen system life
