Description of shaver

Rechargeable and cord shaver: 12-240 V charging operation

100 - 240 V mains operation without switching
Housing: Thermoplastic with soft anti-skid knobs surface, double
insulated
Shaving head frame: Thermoplastic
Shaving foil: Plastic frame version with feed in comb
Cutter block: Plastic, 30 cutter blades 3° obliquely positioned 13 mm
diameter
Long hair cutter: Extendible, switchable through the combination switch

General Information

Shaving system: as Braun micron plus/2000

Drive: 1.2 V direct current motor. Power transmission to cutter block by

eccentric and oscillating system.

Power supply: Supply by means of one built-in rechargeable battery or by direct mains
supply. A built-in electronic charger controls the supply automatically, inde-
pendently of the mains voltage or frequency. Charging of the shaver is
indicated by a green control lamp.

Charging operation through impulse charge, starting from 100 V.

Charging time: on 12 V, 20 hours

from 100 V and up, approx. 1 hour

After maximum charging capacity has been reached, the electronic device
switches back to a compensating trickle charge. A special charging cable
with fuse is available, for use with outlets in car or boats. The most
favorable ambient temperatures for shaver functioning is between + 15 °C
and + 35 °C. By no means the temperature should be below 0 °C or above +
40 °C when charging the shaver.

Technical data

1. Amplitude measured at the cutter block: 3.2 mm

2. Rotational speed battery drive: minimum 6600 RPM without long hair-cutter
3. Current input when run on line-voltage (220V): 17 mA without long hair-cutter
4. Operating capacity after shaver has been
fully charged: approx. 30 shaving minutes

Dismantling

Disconnect the power plug. Remove the shaving head, the cutter block (4) and cutter block support
(6). Remove the housing cover (9) and housing bottom (30) by undoing the fixing screws (32, 33).
Pay attention to the leg spring (12).

The electronic-printed circuit board (27) can either be tilted upwards towards the left or
completely removed after the removal of the housing bottom (30). Release the plug plate and
withdraw it in the upward direction, Subsequently. unsolder the motor fixing screws (23) and
with-draw the motor downwards. Detach the insulating part (26).

Remove the cover plate (16) by undoing the self-tapping screws (17). Proceed by withdrawing the
oscillating system (15) - oscillating arm with driving crank - from the shaft (14). The motor must
be demounted first before the oscillating arm can be replaced.

Reassembly

The reassembling is carried out in the reverse order.

First install the oscillating arm (15) then the motor (21). Prior to reinserting the circuit board (27)
locate the plug plate in the motor frame (13) making sure that the plate is locked in position.
Solder all connections according to drawing.

Mount the sliding plate (11) with leg spring (12) so that the sliding contacts are resting intact (not
bent) on the switch printed lines of the printed circuit board. After having completed the mounting
of the sliding plate, a visual check between motor frame and sliding plate from the bottom is
essential to ensure that the sliding contacts are actually resting on the switch printed lines.

The housing cover and housing bottom must be reinstalled before replacing the cutter block
support (6). First replace the housing cover (9) and then the housing bottom (30) and secure them
with the screws (32,33). Ensure that the rubber seal (8) is seated correctly. When connecting the
shaver to the mains, the charging control lamp must light up.

Check and replace the cutter block and shaving head. Also check the movement to the long-hair
trimmer and carry out a with a nylon thread.

Important note:

For safety reasons, no repairs must be conducted on the printed circuit board (27). The circuit
board is secured with a special varnish against dampness.

As from the 38th week of 1992, all Braun universal shavers for men will be furnished with
ecologically friendly batteries and all relevant PCBs to be used as spare parts will have this new
battery. Because of this change the PCB for the micron plus universal shaver has to be redesigned.

The new PCB contains only one battery and, consequently, along with a exchange of the PCB, the
old 2.4 V motor must be replaced with a 1.2 V motor.

This also causes a different charging characteristic: After being fully charged the green charging
diode switches off.

From February 1994 the rebuilding set Ni-Hy (5563625) is no longer available and in the
case of a rebuild, the following parts should be ordered.

1. PCB, Ni-Hy NLA

2. Motor NLA
3. Oscillating arm 5556825
