BSTA 3109: OPERATIONS RESEARCH II

COURSE OUTLINE

1. PURPOSE

Operations Research course is intended to be an introductory course to beginners in OR.

2.0 EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of this course, the learner should be able to:


i. Appreciate commonly used methods in operation research (OR).
ii. Use of OR in optimization problems (Maximization of output and minimization o
f inputs).

4.0 COURSE EVALUATION

The course will be evaluated through Continuous Assessment Tests (CATs) and final
semester examinations. The CATs will account for 50 marks while the final examination
will be worth 50 marks. There will be 2 CATs, the first of which will be done in Week 5 4
and the second in Week 8. Each CAT will be worth 15 marks. The scores will be graded
as follows:
i. Online quizzes and assignment (Cumulative) 50% ii.
End of session examination 50%
Total 100%
The pass mark is 40%

5.0 MODE OF DELIVERY


This is an online course that will primarily be delivered through the internet with electronic
communities and administrative centers for both students and faculty interactions.

6.0 INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT


The course has a lot of interactive online learning objects mostly sourced from the internet
e.g. power point presentations, online videos and other interactive games and other
resources
