The friendliest people in the world

If you have travelled abroad you will know that some places are friendlier than others.
Of course this doesn’t mean that the other places are unfriendly, but in the friendly
places it’s easy to talk to locals.
Let’s take a look at some differences in Swedish, American and British culture.
Countries such as Sweden are often at the top of friendliness charts, with Gothenburg
and Stockholm being the top cities. However, American cities such as Chicago and
Boston are not very far behind.
According to one newspaper, local people in ‘friendly’ places enjoy meeting with
friends and also talking to strangers. They use social media very often, perhaps to
arrange to socialise with friends, but also to take an interest in what is happening in
their local area.
Studies into friendliness look at how often people meet their friends and how open
they are to talking to people they don’t know. But does this tell us everything about
friendliness? In some other cultures, people are more reserved at first but once they
know and trust you they can be very friendly too. In the UK, for example, 85 per cent
of people say they prefer to meet up with people they already know.
You don’t have to be an outgoing person to visit the friendly cities! Everyone is sure
to get a warm welcome.
We are very interested in knowing about your own experiences. Do you know any
friendly places that we have not mentioned here? What about your own city? Do
people enjoy talking to strangers and socialising with them?
Please answer the survey below. We will publish the results next month!

Subject: Problems with new phone
Dear Sir or Madam
I bought a new mobile phone from your company at Manchester Airport on 6 March
but I’m having a few problems. I need some help because I don’t know how my
phone works!
I visited my local store in Birmingham this morning but there was only one member
of staff there and she wasn’t very helpful. She told me to speak to the manager (Mr
Williams) but he is on holiday until Monday.
I want to read and send email on the phone but the phone does not accept my
username and password. What should I do? I also have a problem using the alarm.
Every day it wakes me up at 3.24 am! Please can someone help me set the alarm to
the correct time?
I need help too with the messaging system. Please tell me how to send and receive
messages. I want to be able to write to my family.
I also have a problem with registering my phone on your website. It does not accept
my phone’s serial number (L345013) because it says that there should be 14 numbers.
I would like help with all of these problems. My phone was very expensive and I want
it to work. I have attached a copy of my receipt – number 237763 – for £565. I would
like to be able to use email, messages and all of the other functions of my phone. At
the moment the only thing I can do is make phone calls!
Please could you call me on the number below?
I look forward to hearing from you.
