Learning Competency: Use emphasis markers for persuasive purposes. (ENG8G-III-1-L2)

At the end of the lesson, students are able to:

a. Define emphasis and emphasis markers

b. Identify the common types of emphasis markers that are used in a given text and;

c. Use an emphasis markers in writing a persuasive essay

amplification to make things bigger or
smaller, better or worse than it really is.

Emphasis Markers are words and expressions

that emphasize a point according to its
categories and functions.

For the first types of Emphasis Markers, we

have Emotive words.

Emphasis is a form of exaggerating the words
or highlighting the words and Emphasis
markers are words or phrases that are used to
emphasize something.

Alright, Emotive words are used to arouse

emotions that can help influence decisions
and change opinions. Emotive words have
immediate connotations such as happiness,
joy, guilt, sadness and fear.

of the writer to

It's Personal Pronouns, using we, you and us

to create connection between the writer and a
reader. Personal Pronouns can make the
readers feel involve in the topic being
discussed.

Very good, so we have Emotive words, Exaggeration
Personal Pronouns, Exaggeration, Repetition
and Imperatives. The use of these five (5) can Emotive words
make your writing entertaining as well as Imperatives
effective in persuading your readers. So the
purpose of these is to add color and flavor to
your writing specially when you are going to
make a persuasive writing as well as
persuasive speech.

Emphasis uses to amplify things or make things

bigger or smaller or better one worse than it
seems to be. Meanwhile, Emphasis markers are
words or expressions that use to make a point.
And also it is used in writing a persuasive text.
