1-Front closing diphthongs :- which end in – i


It’s called front closing because it ends in a front close vowel
/ei/ /ai/ /ᴐi/

It’s called back closing because it ends in a back close vowel

It’s called centring because it ends in central unstressed vowel

Semi-vowels
It’s known as glides ‫ اﻧزﻻﻗﺎت‬because /j/ is a glide from /i/ or
/i:/ into a full vowel, /w/ is a glide from /u:/ or /u/ into a full
vowel
* as the tongue and lips are in the same position as for
these vowels*
Both /j/ & /w/ can come after a consonant or vowel
sounds,but the can only come before vowel sounds.
