1. Audio/Video content (Briefly note down the main content of the audio/
video)
Charles Long: published an article in New Science journal about memorization
 The process of memorization:
- Understand the process => make adjustments to the way we function
- All use memory in the same way:
 A student revising for your finals = An adult trying to recall a
particular item
- Learn to use memory - at nursery school
 Young children: good at remembering things
- The process of memorization occurs in two distinct forms: long-term
memory and short-term memory
+ Use a combination of both types of memory
 Formulate our thoughts
 Recall information
 Remember something from a decade ago or just an hour earlier
 Tips for improving the memory
- Association
+ Word association => remember an idea or a concept
+ A word or phrase
 Associated with what trying to remember
 Something familiar - contact with on a daily basis
- Visualisation:
+ Visualise an image - connected to the thing that you need to remember
 Remember the date that the Berlin Wall came down => visualize a
picture of a wall with the date - written on it in graffiti
+ Use several images in a row => remember information in a text or a
list of ingredients for a recipe
- Singing: one of the most effective and earliest memory tricks
+ Sing lists of historical facts and dates - sing in the head
- Teach it:
+ Teach whatever - want to remember
 Studying for an English exam => teach concepts to someone else -
a real person, a friend in a study group or a pretend person =>
record yourself “teaching” and playback the video => revise the
material further
 These tips are just simple ways to that train our brains to be more
effective.

2. My reflection (Note down what you have learned from the audio/ video)
- After listening to this audio, I felt very excited I found many tips to help
my memory better. In the past when I wanted to memorize something, I used
to read it out loud and repeat it many times, but after listening to this audio I
have learned many good ways to improve memory. it really worked for me.
- The tips Charle Long shared I knew some of them but I was surprised to
hear that singing is a way to improve memory. I honestly never thought that
singing was a way to help memorize pre-exam and it was so effective. I still
have doubts about its effectiveness, maybe in the next exam, I will try to
apply this trick. It sounds interesting.
- I learned some words and structures through this audio:
+ Memorization (n) /ˌmem.ə.raɪˈzeɪ.ʃən/: the act or process of learning
something so that you will remember it exactly
+ Adjustment (n) /əˈdʒʌst.mənt/: a small change
+ Formulate (v) /ˈfɔː.mjə.leɪt/: to develop all the details of a plan for doing
something
+ Association (n) /əˌsəʊ.siˈeɪ.ʃən/: the fact of being involved with or
connected to someone or something
+ It’s vital that
+ Associate with
+ Relevant for
+ Tuned in
+ It sounds too good to be true
