The content of phthalic acid is higher when naphthalene or mixed feed (naphthalene + o-X) is
used.
Catalyst technology is indeed improving year after year, with the aim to increase the
conversion to PA and to reduce or minimize the formation of by-products.
Reaction operating conditions are also very important to keep the content of by-products at
its minimum.
Due to the physical properties of phthalic acid, the removal by distillation is not possible, for
this reason the dehydration is used.

Simone, the decomposer exists only to convert phthalic acid to phthalic anhydride. But
amounts of phthalic acid formed in the exit of reactoris reported to be very low.
Where is phthalic acid exactly formed? Any idea? Is it because of PA getting
hydrolyzed?

Hi, in the modern process technology the post-reactor is highly recommended by any
PA catalyst producer,
it is definitely suggested not to remove the post-reactor.

Hi, the mentioned dehydration reactor 80 m3 is for one reactor 50k t/y,
therefore in a 100-120k t/y PA Plant we suggest 2 dehydration reactors,
one for each reaction train.

condenser trains(each train has 4 condenser units).
But is the thermal treatment vessel of 80 m3 is just ONE
vessel for both the lines? Or do you need one 80 m3 thermal
treatment vessel for EACH 60-65KTA reactor? In which case
2 such vessels will be needed for the 120KTA capacity?
