Lab Report 07

To practice the Fillet, Chamfer, Linear sketch pattern and

Circular sketch pattern commands and to practice a basic
3D drawing (Practice Drawing-5)

Section I
Command Practice

1-FILLET

In SolidWorks, the creation of fillets is facilitated through the dedicated Fillet feature. To
execute this operation with precision, adhere to the subsequent steps:
1. Launch SolidWorks and access the specific part or assembly file where the fillet is intended.
2. Activate the Fillet feature either by selecting the "Fillet" icon within the Features toolbar or
navigating to Insert > Features > Fillet.
3. Identify and choose the pertinent edges or faces earmarked for filleting. The capacity to
select multiple edges or faces is available, with simultaneous selection facilitated by holding
down the Ctrl key.
4. In the Fillet Property Manager, articulate the fillet's specific parameters. Options encompass
defining the fillet radius, with additional choices including Variable Size, Face/Face fillet, or
Full Round fillet.
5. Confirm and implement the fillet by selecting the green checkmark (√) or pressing Enter.
6. The fillet is now instantiated in accordance with the designated edges or faces and specified
parameters. Further modifications or refinements can be enacted by selecting the fillet and
utilizing the Fillet Property Manager.
7. Preserve the applied fillet by saving the respective part or assembly file.

This comprehensive methodology ensures a meticulous execution of the filleting process within
the SolidWorks environment, facilitating subsequent adjustments and maintaining the integrity
of the designed component or assembly.

2-CHAMFER
In SolidWorks, the creation of chamfers is facilitated through the dedicated Chamfer feature. To
achieve this with precision, adhere to the following procedural steps:
1. Launch SolidWorks and access the specific part or assembly file where the chamfer is
intended.
2. Activate the Chamfer feature by selecting the "Chamfer" icon within the Features toolbar or
navigating to Insert > Features > Chamfer.
3. Identify and select the relevant edges earmarked for chamfering. The capacity to select
multiple edges is available, with simultaneous selection facilitated by holding down the Ctrl
key.
4. Within the Chamfer Property Manager, articulate the chamfer's specific parameters. Options
include specifying the chamfer distance or dimensions such as Angle-Distance, Distance-
Distance, or Distance-Angle.
5. Choose the chamfer type, with options ranging from standard chamfers to User Defined
chamfers featuring custom dimensions.
6. Confirm and apply the chamfer by selecting the green checkmark (√) or pressing Enter.
7. The chamfer is now instantiated based on the designated edges and specified parameters.
Subsequent modifications or refinements can be enacted by selecting the chamfer and
utilizing the Chamfer Property Manager.
8. Preserve the applied chamfer by saving the respective part or assembly file.

This comprehensive approach ensures a meticulous execution of chamfering within the

SolidWorks environment, offering flexibility in customization and subsequent adaptability
to design requirements.

3-LINEAR SKETCH PATTERN

Within the SolidWorks environment, the Linear Sketch Pattern feature facilitates the creation of
multiple iterations of a sketch along a predefined linear trajectory. Execute the following
methodical steps to employ the Linear Sketch Pattern effectively:
1. Commence by launching SolidWorks and initiating a new sketch on the designated plane or
surface within the workspace.
2. Convey the desired geometry or features by sketching within the established sketch.
3. Activate the Linear Sketch Pattern feature by selecting the "Linear Sketch Pattern" icon
available in the Sketch toolbar or alternatively accessing it through Tools > Sketch Tools >
Linear Sketch Pattern.
4. In the ensuing Linear Sketch Pattern Property Manager, identify and select the sketch entities
intended for patterning. This can be accomplished by clicking on the entities directly in the
graphics area or by utilizing selection filters for precision.
5. Define the linear direction, specifying either the number of instances or the desired spacing
between instances. This can be achieved through direct value input or by employing
references and equations to govern the pattern's characteristics.
6. Configure additional parameters as needed, including the determination of whether to
establish an up-to-reference pattern, the consideration of merging instances, or the
specification of a rotation angle between successive instances.
7. Preview the proposed pattern to validate its alignment and distribution within the graphics
area.
8. Conclude the process by selecting the green checkmark (√) or pressing Enter to definitively
apply the linear sketch pattern, thereby integrating the replicated sketch entities in
accordance with the defined parameters.

This meticulous approach ensures a proficient utilization of the SolidWorks Linear Sketch
Pattern feature, affording users the capability to systematically replicate and control sketch
elements along a linear trajectory.

4-CIRCULAR SKETCH PATTERN

In SolidWorks, harness the Circular Sketch Pattern feature to systematically replicate a sketch
around a circular trajectory. Execute the following procedural steps for proficient utilization:
1. Commence by launching SolidWorks and initiating a new sketch on the designated plane or
surface within the workspace.
2. Convey the desired geometry or features by sketching within the established sketch.
3. Engage the Circular Sketch Pattern feature by selecting the corresponding icon found in the
Sketch toolbar or alternatively accessing it through Tools > Sketch Tools > Circular Sketch
Pattern.
4. Within the ensuing Circular Sketch Pattern Property Manager, pinpoint and select the sketch
entities earmarked for replication. This can be achieved either by directly clicking on the
entities within the graphics area or by utilizing selection filters for precision.
5. Specify the central point for the circular pattern, selecting a point or sketch entity in the
graphics area, or entering precise coordinates for accuracy.
6. Define the number of instances or articulate the angle between instances. This can be
achieved through direct value input or by employing references and equations for dynamic
control over the pattern.
7. Determine the rotation direction for the pattern as per your design requirements.
8. Configure additional options, such as specifying a full or partial circular pattern, deciding
whether to merge instances, or setting the rotation angle between successive instances.
9. Validate the proposed pattern through a preview, allowing for real-time verification of its
alignment and distribution within the graphics area.

10. Conclude the process by selecting the green checkmark (√) or pressing Enter, definitively
applying the circular sketch pattern and integrating the replicated sketch entities in
accordance with the specified parameters.

This methodical approach ensures a seamless and precise application of the Circular Sketch
Pattern feature in SolidWorks, empowering users to efficiently replicate and control sketch
elements around a circular path.
