Jaypee Boundary Layer Wind Tunnel (BLWT) Facility

At Wind Engineering Application Centre (WEAC), JUET, Guna, India

Boundary layer wind tunnel (BLWT) testing is an internationally well established and accepted approach to determine the local wind
pressures and global wind-induced structural loads and responses. Being an experimental method at the laboratory level, followed
by standard analysis procedures, it offers versatile opportunities for the designer to investigate complex wind loads and responses,
due to influence of different shapes , and to test the structure under different terrains and wind speed regimes. Currently, BLWT
testing is the only reliable method available to study interference effects due to surrounding structures, which is an inevitable
scenario in any construction industry.

Jaypee Wind Engineering Application Centre (WEAC) at Jaypee University of Engineering & Technology (JUET), Guna, India has
recently established a state-of-the-art boundary layer wind tunnel (BLWT) facility, with a prime objective of providing innovative
solutions to wind engineering related problems in civil engineering/ infrastructure domain, besides pursuing and promoting R&D
excellence in the field of Wind Engineering.

Our Vision: To establish a Centre of Excellence of international repute in

Wind Engineering and to provide innovative solutions to industry problems.

Our Mission:
• Collaborate with industry and undertake sponsored and/or consultancy
projects.
• To pursue excellence in wind engineering through quality R&D.

Jaypee BLWT facility, initially conceived and designed by Indian experts, was also reviewed and vetted by renowned wind
engineering experts from Australia and New Zealand. Presently, this BLWT has the largest test section, in India, with a size of 3.0
m (H) x 3.5 m (W) x 22.0 m (L), and with a maximum wind speed of 40 m/s. Another unique feature of this BLWT is that it has a
blockage tolerant roof, which facilitates testing of large size models without any need for blockage correction.
