Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was really called Teophilus, but he chose the Latin translation
Amadeus. He was born in 1756, the 7th child of Leopold ( a violinist and composer) and his wife.
The couple had seven children but only two survived, Wolfgang and his sister Maria Anna . They
were brilliant musicians.
When Mozart was three he could play the piano perfectly and at the age of five he wrote his first
composition. His father was his music and language teacher. When Mozart was six years old, his
father took him and his sister on tour . They spent three years in Europe performing in many places including royal
courts, where queens and emperors listened to them. When Mozart was fourteen he wrote his first opera, which
was a success. But five years later he wasn’t popular anymore and he had to accept jobs that didn’t pay well
He was a very small, thin and pale man but he had a lot of hair. He also loved elegant clothes and hats.
Mozart played the piano, the keyboard and the violin . He wrote over 600 compositions in his life. In 1791, after
writing “The Magic Flute”, he became ill and died in Vienna. He was one of the most important classical composers
in history and today, his music is world-famous. He said: “Love, love, love …that is the soul of genious”
