P 01 : Electric Charges and Fields - Hints and Solutions

1. A particle of mass m and charge q is released x = 2.5a from charge (+q)

from rest in a uniform electric field of or
intensity E. Calculate the kinetic energy it 10a - x = 10a - 2.5a = 7.5 a from charge (+9q)
attains after moving a distance between the
plates ?
3. A sphere of radius r1 encloses a charge Q. If

r2 (r2 > r1) and there is no additional charges
between S1 and S2. Find the ratio of electric
flux through S1 and S2 ?

KE = m × qE/m × s
KE = qEs So,  S 1 :  S 2  1 : 1

P = q A × d = qB × d
Hence the given ratio is dimensionless = 2.5 × 10-7 × 0.3
e = 1.6 × 10-19 C, = 7.5 ×10-8 cm
G = 6.67 × 10-11 Nm2/kg2 along +ve z-axis
me = 9.1 × 1031 kg .............................................................
mp = 1.66 × 10-27 kg
K = 9 ×109
Hence, the numerical value of the given ratio is

Gmemp 6.67  10 11  9.1  10  31  1.66  10 22

This ratio of electric field to the
gravitational force between proton and and
electron keeping distance between them

5. A system has two charges qA = 2.5 × 10-7 C
and q B = -2.5 × 10 -7 C located at points
A : (0, 0, -15 cm) and B : (0, 0 + 15cm)
respectively. What are the total charge and
electric dipolemoment of the system ?
Ans.
Both of the charges can be located in a
coordinate frame of reference as shown in
the figure

At ‘A’ amount of charge qA = 2.5 × 10-7 C. At

‘B’ amount of charge qB = -2.5 × 10-7 C,
Total charge of the system
q = qA + qB = 2.5 × 10-7 - 2.5 × 10-7 = 0
Distance beween two charges at point A and
point B
d = 15 + 15 = 30 cm = 0.3 m
