Chapter 1 Introduction
NOTE:This manual gives detailed operation instruction of RCSPC (also called DBG2000)
software for user. The equipment type displayed on the interface is just an example to
show the operating steps to communicate with the equipment using RCSPC software.
The actual protection equipment for user is application-specific.
1.1 Function
RCSPC software is developed for users to test and maintain the protection equipment on site,
which is kind of local HMI (Human Machine Interface) as RCS-900 serial and PCS-9690 serial
protective equipments. User can view real-time sampled values, read and modify settings, view all
kinds of report, and do tests through the RCSPC software compatible with MW (Microsoft
Windows) 95, WM98, WM 2000, WM ME and WM XP operation systems on a computer.
Besides this kind of local communication, user still can realize the local human-machine
communication with the relay through the keypad and LCD on the frontpanel of the equipment, or
realize the remote human-machine communication on a PC with the SAS (Substation Automatic
System) software via a RS-485 port.
Run the software RCSPC with the double click on the executable file (RCSPC.exe).
If the connection succeeds between the equipment with computer via RS-232 port, the computer
screen will display as following figure. If user fails to connect the equipment to a local computer,
please modify the communication parameters of equipment and RCSPC software respectively to
make them matched.
NOTE:There are four main functions for RCSPC software, and they are sampled value
display, settings reading and modification, report and test function. All these functions
can be executed with the four corresponding configuration files xxx_status.dat,
xxx_set.dat, xxx_rpt.dat and xxx_tst.dat equipped respectively (xxx represents the
software name of the equipment).
Chapter 2 Preparation
On the frontpanel of this serial equipments, there are a 9-pin RS-232 connector for communication
with PC and a 15-pin connector for analog quantity inputs by HELP-90A during commissioning,
which consist of RCS-900 serial line protections and auxiliary protections, RCS-917 reactor
protection, and RCS-974 transformer auxiliary protection.
On the frontpanel of this serial equipments, there is a 9-pin RS-232 connector for communication
with PC during commissioning, which consist of RCS-978 transformer protection, RCS-915 busbar
protection and RCS-985 generator protection and RCS-985 transformer protection.
On the front panel of this serial equipment, there is 9-pin RS-232 connector for communication
with PC during commissioning, which consist of PCS-9691A, PCS-9691B, PCS-9691C,
PCS-9691D, PCS-9692A and PCS-9692B relays).
User needs to make a communication cable to connect the equipment with a computer through
the RS-232 port on the front panel. One end of the cable is DB9 female serial connector, and the
other end of the cable is DB9 male serial connector. Each serial connector generally has two
screws measuring 0.3mm allow the serial connection to be securely connected to the equipment.
Please refer to Figure 2.1-1, Figure 2.1-2 and Figure 2.1-3 for correct connections of three kinds of
equipments mentioned above respectively.

Chapter 3 Usage Instruction
Set the fist bit of the tripping matrix setting [TrpLog_Diff] as “1”, and then user can make the
differential protection operates by click the icon on the dialog. User can test all tripping output
relays by setting all bits of the setting as “1”,
SAS communication test is used to check whether the SAS host computer can correctly receive
the message from the equipment without injecting analog currents and voltages.
Click the item to enter to tripping output test. Click the icon to make
differential protection operate, and the corresponding tripping output relays pick up which are
decided by the logic setting [TrpLog_Diff] with the icon changing to state from
state . User can check whether the corresponding contacts operate through a tool such
as multimeter.
Click the icon to make operated relays drop off, and then the icon state is also back to
original state .
Click the item to go to the communication test display as the following figure shows.
Click the icon of each test item and each event will be recorded in the equipment,
which is also sent to SAS host computer. User can check whether the message sent to SAS is
same to the corresponding record in equipment.
Before the test, the logic setting [En_TestMode] in submenu “System Setting(*)” ->”Protection
Cofig” should be set as “1” (i.e. “Enable”), which can be modified only through RCSPC software
shown in the following figure, to enable the test function. Besides, the corresponding enabling
logic setting of a protection in the same submenu should be set as “1” to do the test.
Click the “Test mode” icon on the tool bar to enter test mode with a dialog shown as the
Figure 3.6-2. The test items are classified according to different protected objects.
This test function is used to check whether tripping output relays and signal relays (including
annunciation signal, remote signal and FDR signal) can operate correctly without injecting analog
currents and voltages. User can test all tripping output relays by setting all bits of some tripping
matrix logic setting, such as [TrpLog_Diff], to make all tripping output relays operate for testing.
Besides, contacts of CT/VT circuit alarm and other abnormalities can also operate in this test
mode.
Select the test item to click its icon and the corresponding output relays will pick up to
send all kinds of signals with the icon changing to state from state . User
can check whether the corresponding contacts operate through a tool, such as multimeter.
Click the icon to make operated relays drop off, and then the icon state is also back to
original state .
Before the test, the logic setting [En_TestMode] in submenu “SYS SETTINGS”->”PROT CONFIG”
should be set as “1”, which can be modified only through RCSPC software, to enable the test
function. Besides, the corresponding enabling logic setting of a protection in submenu “SYS
SETTINGS”->”PROT CONFIG” should be set as “1” to do the test.
After connecting with equipment successfully, click the icon of tool bar “Signal reset” , all
magnetic latched output relays and signal relays will be reset.
After connecting with equipment successfully, click the icon of tool bar “Time” , a clock
synchronizing command is issued to the relay to synchronize the clock time of the relay with the
time of the computer DBG9000 installed.
