Three enthusiastic customers, Jerry Baldwin, Zev Siegl, and Gordon Bowker, became very enthusiastic and they dreamed of bringing the same roasting style of coffee to Seattle. Where the coffee shop becomes a place to have conversations and have a sense of togetherness, a "Third Place" between work and home. Howard was finally given the opportunity to build a 27 square meter store to set up an espresso bar with an Italian style. • In April 1984, the first Starbucks store finally opened and introduced Starbucks® Caffè Latte to the American public. • Howard and his small team promised investors that they would open 125 stores in the next five years. 1.3 Always an Eye on Innovation: Starbucks in the 1990s • By 1992, the number of Starbucks® stores had doubled year over year and had grown to 165, exceeding Howard's five-year promise. • In 1994, to expand its coverage area to the East Coast, Starbucks chose a location in York, Pennsylvania, to build a new, larger roasting plant. • In 1996 Starbucks Stores opened internationally.
