COURSE TITLE: Primary Care of Women


COURSE NUMBER: NURSING 230 (N-230)
COURSE CREDIT: 3 units (2 Units Lecture, 1 Clinical)

Description: Concepts, principles and processes of health maintenance and manage-


ment of non-life threatening disruptions specific to women throughout their life
span.
Purpose:
The purpose of this course is to enable graduate students to:
1. Analyze relevant national and international socio-demographic data affecting
women.
2. Explain relevant laws, programs and policies affecting women.
3. Derive implications of socio-demographic statistics, laws, programs, and policies
regarding women.
4. Describe pertinent concepts, strategies, assessment tools and technologies and in-
terventions in the care of women.
5. Demonstrate skills in assessing women’s health and providing nursing manage-
ment of conditions affecting women.
6. Analyze advances in reproductive technology
7. Analyze issues and concerns related to sexuality, women’s role in development,
and psychosocial situations affecting women.

FINAL EXAMINATION
The Final Examination is an integrative exam that will cover all the oral report, lec-
ture, and practicum.

ORAL REPORT
Oral Report should be submitted before the day of the scheduled reporting via CAN-
VAS

MCN RESEARCHES
Paper on MCN researches is an essay of 800-1000 words. It is a review of at least 10
published researches (published not earlier than 2015), both local and foreign along
any of the following themes:
Health Technology for Women
Women’s Mental Health
Reproductive Health
Women and the Sustainable Development Goals
Gynecological Health
The paper must include an assessment of the researches and their implications to
MCN practice and education. Graduate Students are to attach copies of the re-
searches reviewed.

PRACTICUM/CLINICALS
The clinical practicum sessions are required and attendance is a MUST.
Specific Objectives
The following are the specific objectives of this Practicum:
1. To provide a venue for graduate students to observe and perform assessment
of the patient with gynecologic conditions, and develop mastery and confi-
dence in doing so.
2. To provide an opportunity for graduate students to appreciate technological
advances in the field and their implications to the practice of nursing in this
current time.

Practicum Students are required to be in complete white uniform/scrub suit or


smock gown plus ID while on duty and bring a thermometer and Stethoscope and
BP Apparatus.
Practicum Students are required to come 30 minutes before the specified time on
duty. No make-up will be provided during the semester. The only possibility of
completing the course is to join the succeeding groups when the course is offered
again.
Completion of all practicum activities is a prerequisite for Final Examination.
