A tradition of innovation Right from the beginning, Rhein Chemie was a pioneer in the
field of lubricant additives. As early as the 1950s, we started
to market low-odor, high-performance extreme pressure ad-
ditives for lubricants. In subsequent years, we focused on
the development of lubricity esters, phosphorus and sulfur
additives to replace the chlorinated paraffins. In virtually all
applications, additives from Rhein Chemie not only can fully
replace these substances, they frequently can provide solu-
tions with even better performance.
Quality without compromise One of our primary goals is the ongoing improvement of our
high quality level. Our activities in this context are geared to
our ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certification, which serves as an
incentive to continuously improve our production processes.
We impose high quality standards on all areas, not just on the
products themselves.
2
Global competence Rhein Chemie today has access to a worldwide network
when it comes to supporting customers in the development
and production of high-quality lubricants.
On site anywhere around the globe Rhein Chemie operates excellently equipped laboratories in
Mannheim and at its new location in Qingdao, China. In these
facilities, experienced specialists are constantly working on
solutions in close cooperation with customers, who benefit
from the know-how of a leading manufacturer with a world-
wide reputation for quality, reliability and intensive customer
care. On this basis, we offer a broad range of services, from
consultancy and comprehensive testing all the way to the
simulation of complex tribological systems.
Technology for good economy Highly advanced technologies are used for the implementa-
and ecology tion of all manufacturing processes at Rhein Chemie. They re-
flect the principles of Responsible Care by balancing econo-
mic requirements with ecological aspects and social needs.
One example is the emphasis on sustainable raw materials.

Application Products in the Additin® EP range are generally used as a
backbone in the formulation of modern neat oil and water-
based metalworking fluids and greases, as well as transmis-
sion and slideway oils. Rhein Chemie provides the right solu-
tion for any application and offers competent assistance for
selecting the most suitable alternatives.

Mode of action: Additin® EP products chemically react with the metal surface
Reduced cutting force to form a protective sulfur-containing film. This reduces direct
and lower friction metal-to-metal contact, thereby avoiding friction as well as
material damage, e.g. caused by welding. In addition, these
films contribute to the absorption of shock loads that might
occur during boundary lubrication under high pressure.
7
Application Additin® AW additives are widely used in metalworking, grea-
ses, hydraulics and a variety of other industrial applications.
The advantages of phosphorus additives are in their particu-
lar effectiveness in medium- to low-stress boundary lubrica-
tion situations.

Application Lubricants are highly susceptible to aging. The additives of
the Additin® AO range dramatically slow the aging process
with all its negative side-effects. Antioxidants are performing
well in nearly all lubricants and fuels. Depending on the tem-
perature of a given application, phenolic or aminic formulati-
ons, or mixtures of both, may be recommended.
Extended lifetime
14
Mode of action: All products in the Additin® AO range are primary antioxidants
Preventing the effects of aging that function as radical scavanger to stop the aging process
before it reaches a critical stage. Synergies can be achieved
in combination with special AW and EP Additin® types.

The package Additin® RC 9410 is designed for industrial gear oils and can be used in numerous other applications, including hydraulics, metalworking fluids,
slideway oils and many more.
18
Mode of action: The idea behind additive packages is to form a well balan-
Putting know-how in a package ced composition of many different individual components.
Such solutions reflect a high level of know-how and clearly
set Rhein Chemie apart from other chemical suppliers as a
true specialist in the field of additives. Additive packages in
the Additin® PA range are complex formulations, proven so-
lutions that help cut development time while assuring high
quality and reducing the costs for analysis, inventory and or-
dering.
Ash-containing
The Rhein Chemie packages for greases cover excellent multifunctional properties. They are designed specifically for high demands on EP performance,
corrosion protection (even under extreme conditions, e.g. sea water) and yellow metal compatibility. Choice and treat rates can be adapted to individual
industrial requirements.
The chlorine-free additive packages, with their excellent load-carrying capacities, antiwear properties and corrosion protection, can be adapted to the requi-
rements of an application by varying treatment level and base fluid viscosity.
