ANSWER :
(A8) Correct Option: A
Let the population of Salt Lake = 9x,
The population of South Kolkata = 8x, and
By Navneet Tiwari
The population of Rajarhat = 3x
The total population of these three localities = 9x + 8x + 3x = 20x
The number of literate in Salt Lake = 80% of 9x = 7.2x
The number of literate in South Kolkata = 70% of 8x = 5.6 x
The number of literate in Rajarhat = 90% of 3x = 2.7x
The total number of literate in these three localities = 7.2x + 5.6x + 2.7x = 15.5x
Hence. Required percentage = (15.5 x /20x) × 100 = 77.5%
Therefore, option (A) is correct.

(A10) Correct Option: C
Let the amount with the Rampaal, before he started the tour of Gujarat
be P By Navneet Tiwari
In the first city he spends = P/3 + 30
He would be left with (P – P/3 – 30) = [ ( 2P/3) – 30
At the end of the tour of the first city.
In the second city he spends ( 1/3) × [ (2P/3 )– 30] + 30 = 2P/9 +
20
He would be left with [ ( 2P/3 ) – 30] – [ ( 2P/9 ) + 20]
= 4P/9 – 50 at the end of the tour of the second city.
In the third city he spends ( 1/3 ) × [ ( 4P/9 ) – 50] + 30
= 4P/27 + 40/3
He would be left with [(4P/9) – 50] – [ (4P/27) + (40/3 )]
= 8P/27 – 190/3
Therefore, total amount left with him after the tour = Rs. 1000
⇒ 8P/27 – 190/3 = 1000
⇒ 8P/27 = 1000 + 190/3
⇒ 8P/27 = 3190 /3
⇒ 8P/27 = 1063.33
⇒ P/8 = (1413.33 × 27)/8
⇒ P = 3588 (approx.)
Hence, the amount with Rampaal, before he started the tour of Gujarat
is Rs. 3588
Hence, option C is correct.

ANSWER :
(A11) Correct Option: E
In such a problem, it is convenient to work backwards.
Let there be x sweets left after the fourth son took his sweets.
By Navneet Tiwari
Before the third son took his sweets, there were 4x/3 + 3
Before the second son took his Sweets, there were (4/3)((4x/3) +3)+ 2
= 16/9 x + 6
Before the first son took his Sweets, there were (4/3 ) ((16/9) x + 6 ) +1
(64/27)x + 9 = y (Say)
If x = 0 then y = 9. But as each son (and hence the 4th son) got at least 3 sweets,
x = 27 and y = 73
Hence, option (E) is correct.

ANSWER :
(A15) Correct Option: C
Let us first rewrite the numbers a touch – 40% of students in Class A are boys,
and 37.5% of boys in class B are boys. TheByoverall percentage of boys should lie
Navneet Tiwari
between these two numbers.
Now, class A has at least twice as many students as class B. So, the overall
weighted average should definitely be closer to the percentage of boys in class A,
or closer to 40%.
Now, the number of students in class A can be much higher than the number in
class B, in which case the overall percentage would practically be 40%. This is the
maximum percentage that can be there.
For the minimum percentage, we need to consider the other extreme-where
class A has exactly twice as many students as class B.
The weighted average would be
(2 × 40% + 1 × 37.5)/3 = 39.17%
Hence, option (C) is correct.
