WE GROW FOREST FOUNDATION OZONE DAY ACTIVITY

Team We Grow Forest Foundation’s primary objective is to engage students in Grades 4 and 5 in
understanding the importance of ozone layer protection and promoting sustainable practices on
Ozone Day.

OBJECTIVE
To educate and engage students in understanding the importance of ozone layer protection and
promoting sustainable practices.

MATERIALS NEEDED

 Whiteboard and markers

 Visual aids (images, diagrams, videos)
 Art supplies (colored pencils, markers, craft paper)
 Educational materials on the ozone layer and environmental conservation

ACTIVITY 1
INTRODUCTION TO OZONE LAYER (10 MINUTES)
We commence the session with a brief discussion on the ozone layer's significance in safeguarding
life on Earth. We explain what ozone is and its location in the stratosphere. Furthermore, we delve
into how human activities, particularly the use of certain chemicals, can adversely affect the ozone
layer. Visual aids are employed to enhance the students' understanding.

2
ACTIVITY 2
OZONE LAYER ART (15 MINUTES)

To nurture creativity and environmental consciousness, we provide students with art supplies and
encourage them to create artwork related to the ozone layer and environmental conservation. We
motivate them to employ colours and symbols that represent a healthy ozone layer and a clean
environment. Following the art session, students briefly present their artwork to the class.

ACTIVITY 3
OZONE-FRIENDLY ACTIONS (15 MINUTES)

We engage the students in a discussion about everyday actions that can either harm or protect the
ozone layer, such as using aerosol sprays, reducing plastic waste, and conserving energy. Together,
we brainstorm ways in which they can actively contribute to ozone layer protection through their
daily choices. A list of ozone-friendly actions is compiled on the whiteboard.

ACTIVITY 4
OZONE LAYER QUIZ (15 MINUTES)

For an interactive learning experience, we organize a quiz featuring questions related to the ozone
layer and its significance. Students are divided into teams, and small prizes are offered for correct
answers. This quiz serves to reinforce the key concepts covered during the session.

ACTIVITY 5
STORYTELLING OR VIDEO PRESENTATION (15 MINUTES)

To inspire and reinforce the importance of their efforts, we share a short story or video depicting a
character or real-life individuals who have made a positive impact on ozone layer protection or
environmental conservation. This narrative adds depth to the student's understanding and
motivation.
3
ACTIVITY 6
PLANT A TREE (20 MINUTES)

At the activity session, we take the students outdoors, if feasible, to engage in tree planting. We
emphasize the significance of trees in absorbing carbon dioxide and contributing to a healthier
environment. Students are encouraged to care for the tree they plant as a symbol of their
commitment to environmental protection.

ACTIVITY 7
OZONE DAY PLEDGE (10 MINUTES)

We invite students to collectively pledge to take actions aimed at safeguarding the ozone layer and
the environment. Each student is provided with a printed pledge, which they recite together. We
encourage them to sign the pledge as a commitment to responsible environmental behaviour.

ACTIVITY 8
OZONE DAY CELEBRATION (20 minutes)

At We Grow Forest Foundation, Concluding Session, the Ozone Day Celebration lasting 20
minutes, we organize a closing ceremony where we gather the students to commemorate Ozone
Day. During this ceremony, we take the opportunity to acknowledge and applaud the students for
their commendable efforts and creative engagement in learning about ozone protection. As a token
of recognition, we proudly distribute certificates of participation and achievement to each student,
celebrating their dedication to environmental awareness and their commitment to ozone
preservation.

4
ACTIVITY 9
FOLLOW-UP (HOMEWORK OR PROJECTS)

To further enhance their knowledge and engagement, we assign homework or projects that enable
students to research the ozone layer, its protection, or environmental conservation. They are tasked
with creating posters, presentations, or essays to present in the next class.

Our detailed activity plan not only imparts knowledge about the ozone layer but also instills a sense
of responsibility and active participation in environmental preservation among students. Through
creative activities and interactive discussions, we aim to nurture their commitment to sustainability
and inspire them to become responsible stewards of our planet.
