Question 1
(i): Which type of network is used in Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM)?
Indeed, Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) is telecommunication technology that utilized switched
wide area network. ATM networks are designed to efficiently handle a variety of traffic types ,including
voice, data, and video, by utilizing a switching mechanism at the ATM layer.

(ii): Identify the type of network used in dial-up line?

The types of network used in a dial-up line is a circuit-switched network. In this types of network. a
dedicated physical connection is established between the user’s computer and the internet service
provider via a telephone line. It’s an older technology that provides a temporary and exclusive
connection for data transmission.

(iii): Which type of network uses the concept of Queue to transfer data
efficiently?
The type of network that uses the concept of a queue to transfer data efficiently is a packet-switched
network. In this type of network, data is divided into smaller packets and then transmitted
independently over the network. These packets are placed in queues at each network node and are
forwarded based on available resources and network conditions.

(iv): Which type of the network is used in the old Telephone exchange system?
The old telephone exchange system used a circuit-switched network. In this type of network, a
dedicated physical connection is established between the calling and receiving parties for the duration
of the call. When a call is made, a connection is set up between the two parties' telephones, creating an
exclusive pathway for the voice communication to take place. This technology was widely used in
traditional telephone systems before the advent of digital networks.

(v): Identify the type of the network is used in the modern form of telephone
system?
The modern form of telephone systems primarily uses a combination of circuit-switched and packet-
switched networks. Traditional voice calls still rely on circuit-switched networks, as they provide a
dedicated, end-to-end connection for the duration of the call. However, with the rise of Voice over
Internet Protocol (VoIP) technology, packet-switched networks are increasingly utilized.
