Macro Perspective of

the Tourism and

Hospitality
 Global Covid-19 pandemic has caused the economic growth of the Philippines to slow down
especially in the Travel and Hospitality sectors. Travel restrictions were imposed to stop the hard
widespread of the Covid-19 worldwide. People are afraid and unwilling to travel during the first
phase of pandemic; the restriction strengthens the negative impact to the economy especially in
travel and hospitality sector.

There are many effects of Covid-19 that is proven to cause disturbance in the travel and
hospitality engagement. These health problems have limited the operation of business
establishments, stopped the jobs of crews and staffs, and burden the economy. The customers are
unable to personally access the services and amenities that a business offers. The hazards that the
customers are avoiding causes some travel and leisure agency to shut down their business.
Travelling locally and domestically was limited and certain requirements are strictly required by
the government agencies involved causing the tourists to resist from going to different places.
The costing of antigen test, rapid test, and swab test were also a bit hassle for traveler that is why
they chose to postpone their errands. Some small-scale restaurant was forced to close due to
customers choosing to eat inside their homes to avoid getting infected by the virus. Hospitality
and travel sectors is one of the most affected sector in the industry

Terrorism is one of the biggest reasons why tourists are hesitant to visit a certain place
and destination. One particular region that is prone to terrorism attack in the Philippines is
Mindanao. As the Department of Tourism Secretary, I will first conduct a thorough research in
about the terrorists and their ulterior motive in terrorizing our country and how bad does it affect
the tourism unit in Mindanao. Once I have gathered enough data and information, I will proceed
in conducting a meeting and planning to permanently allow tourists to visit Mindanao without
having second thoughts for their safety. I will urge the local government unit leaders to develop
the hidden tourist spots in each municipality even in their barangays.

I will also create a competition event of video making showcasing the sceneries,
delicacies, furniture, culture and tradition, and insights of the people living there about the kind
of life they are enjoying at that place. I will also ask for the support of the National Defense to
tighten the safety protocols in securing the land to and if possible, I will initiate peace talks to the
terrorist group and will try to convince them to be of help in promoting the beauty of Mindanao.
Lastly, I will open conversation to international countries to promote tourism agreements and to
propose some agreements about the safety contained in Mindanao.

As the world now is in advanced technology, globalization has been a major booster in
different sector. In tourism and hospitality, globalization has brought huge impact in maintaining
and enhancing the systems and technologies used in each business establishments. The materials
used in entertaining the customers are modernized, accessible, and more convenient today. It
made the work easier for personnel, staffs, owners, and customers. Globalization also brings the
industry into the market in fastest way where businesses in tourism and hospitality are found
online. The products are highly marketed to different target customers worldwide in just few
minutes. It also improves the experience of the customer way better than the previous versions of
machineries and equipment used in the business.
 I think the future of Tourism and Hospitality in the Philippines is bright. The growing
ideas of entrepreneurs in this sector are truly immense and powerful. There are lots of
commendable establishments that offer new and unforgettable experience to the customers and
society. The kind of activities and leisure are different from the old version where technology is
limited. Filipinos are getting more creative, advance, and resourceful and no wonder in the future
the tourism and industry here in the Philippines is leading worldwide.

I realized that the trends in tourism and hospitality is very commendable as people involved
can retire early, have longer life span, shorter work week, greater disposable income, greater
mobility, and smaller families. But on the other side, the issues are also large in talks like in the
marketing, legal issues, human resource issues, operations, and consumer affairs. But all of those
issues, I realized that those are fixable.
 As the DOT Secretary, I would love to have RFID System not just in tourism and hospitality
but in all aspect of our lives. But, I would not suggest having RFID beside this industry because
RFID uses radio wave that has harmful elements that can affect our health. But I also agree to
some agencies that uses this system such as in railways and factories. Maybe it is really a good
idea to implement this system but there is still solid study to permit the wide use of RFID in our
home aside from passports and hotels.

As the DOT Secretary, I will persuade them through a report about how the tourism and
hospitality has helped the economy’s growth and income. I will task my employees to gather all
the necessary documents for the data that has been used in statistics for the economy’s income
for the fast five years. I highly believe that this industry is one of the biggest contributors in
terms of income and tourists here in our country. To highly boost our economy in this term,
professionals under this sector should have a bigger salary so that they will continue to work and
strive in catering the tourists locally and domestically. I will suggest this because these
professionals are the one who takes care of the necessities and gives assistance to the customers
that’s why they deserve a salary increase.

I will most probably suggest mandating licensure examinations for this industry because
it is way better if there is license supporting their career. This is a better way to measure the
skills and talent of these future professionals in tourism and hospitality management.

I would love to propose the use of apply the use of virtual reality technology where if a
tourist want to travel to a certain place but is not certain with it, they just can use this technology
to experience the desired place and to see if they will love their future experience with the place.
CONCLUSIONS

The macro viewpoint of tourism and hospitality is broad and unlimited. It has many

branches that require sensitivity and authenticity in dealing with it. I grow up enjoying the

amenities and leisure activities form this industry but I never knew that this is a complicated one.

It is complicated because the system and flow work is not easy and has to be properly arranged

because the services are catered to different kind of people every day. It needs to be well-

prepared, the meals, the accommodations, and the way professionals communicate with the

customers is really important.

I learned that in travelling, this industry is one of those who will take care of the

passenger’s needs before and after travelling. They had to check certain documents for the

processing of travel. Permits and identity documents are strictly checked and monitored by the

staffs. There are factors that sometimes prolong the process just like the tampering and falsifying

documents that gives them hard to address or correct.

The growing competition in this industry is seen as each establishment has something

new to offer for customers. They use advanced technology to persuade customers that their

service is way better. They had to please the customers for them to be able to have a good

review.

The foods and beverages must be served to the satisfaction of the customers. I know that

this is very hard because every little matter under this this industry should be addressed properly

to avoid loss of customer and to gain more popularity through the hearsays of the people who

experienced the services of different business under this industry.
