ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

I would like to express my sincere gratitude and deep respect to my supervisor Mr.
Basudev K.C, Department of Physics, Gurukul Academy for this continuous
inspiration and constructive guidance.

I would like to express my deep respect and gratitude to Mr. Nimanand Gaire, MR.
Ajay Kumar Shah, Department of Science, and Gurukul Academy for providing me
an opportunity to conduct this project work in this department.

I would like to extend by deep regards to all my respectful faculty members and non-
teaching staffs of the Department of Science.

I am thankful to others who help in this work. My special thanks goes to my thesis mates
and colleagues.

I cannot forget the endless love, support and encouragement of my parents. Without them,
I wouldn’t be the person I am today.
Construct a hygrometer using dry and wet bulb thermometer and use it
to measure the relative humidity of given place.

Apparatus Required:

1. Two mercury thermometer

2. Water
3. Cotton cloths and wick
4. Stands, beaker and threads

Theory:

Humidity is the concentration of the water vapour present in the air. Water vapour, the
gaseous state of the water, is generally invisible to the human eye.

Relative humidity tells us about how much water vapour is in the air,
compared to how much it could hold at that temperature. It is shown as a percent. For
example, a relative humidity of 50% means that the air is holding one half of the water
vapour it can hold.

Similarly, the dew point is the temperature to which air must be cooled to
become saturated with water vapour. The vapour pressure at room temperature is equal to
saturated vapour pressure at dew point.

A hygrometer is an instrument used to measure the relative humidity of air in a

given place. A simple hygrometer uses a wet and dry bulb method with thermometer
mounted on a thread that is swing in the air.

Procedure:

1. Take the mercury thermometer.

2. They are hold in horizontal rods with the help of threads at two different points.
3. First thermometer P with a bulb that is dry measures the room temperature .The
bulb of the thermometer Q is wrapped with the cotton cloths or threads and it is
immersed in a breaker containing water.
4. Second thermometer Q that is wet and uses the evaporative cooling to measure the
humidity.
5. As moisture evaporates from the wet bulb, its temperature goes down. The
temperature of the both thermometers is noted.
6. And relative humidity is computed from the difference in temperature between the
wet and dry–bulb thermometer using the wet and dry bulb humidity table.

RESULT
Hence the dry and wet bulb hydrometer is constructed to measure the relative
humidity at that place.
