Good morning everyone! Another wonderful

day! How are you? Good morning teacher! We’re fine, thank
you.

Are there any absent today?

None, ma’am.
Very good!
Before we proceed to our lesson for today, let
me first introduce to you our classroom rule
that we need to follow during our session.

Please read.

1.Be prepared for class

2.Be quiet when the teacher is talking

3.Listen to the teacher carefully

4.Raise your hand to speak; and

5.Always do your best

Can I expect these from you, class?

Yes ma’am!
A.Reviewing previous lesson or presenting
the new lesson

Now before we start, can anyone recall what

was our previous lesson? Teacher, it’s all about division of whole
numbers.

Very well said! And what are the 3

components of division? Sir, the three components of division are the
following: quotient, dividend and divisor.

Very good.

B.Establishing a purpose for the

lesson/motivation

Today we will have a game that involves

everyone! Listen carefully to the instruction.
MATH RUSH (8 minutes.)

Direction: The class will be divided into (the learners will listen to the instruction)
groups and will be asked to form a line.
Several simple mathematical equations will
be given and each member standing in front
of the line will have to go to the board to
solve the given equation. The first one to
answer the equation correctly will gain a (the learners will group themselves properly
point for the group. and will form a line.)

This activity is composed of few rounds to

make sure that everybody will have a chance
to solve in front and the standards for proper
behavior during the activity must be
(each member will have to answer the given
reminded to the learners.
equations properly and will go to the back
of the line after answering on the board.)
1. 24x8 = ?
2. 54 ÷ 6= ? 1. 24x8 = 192
3. 115 – 34 = ?
2. 54 ÷ 6= 9
4. 305 + 22 =?
3. 115 – 34 = 81
5. 11 x 11 = ?
4. 305 + 22 =327
5. 11 x 11 = 121

Excellent! Congratulations everyone, all you

did well!

Did you all have fun?

Yes teacher! It was great.
That’s great!
C.Presenting examples/instances of the
new lesson

If you notice what you did earlier in the

game, you solved the equations using the
four mathematical operations. And our lesson
for today has something to do with the
operations.

Can anyone guess what our lesson is?

Teacher, it is the equations with different
operations in it and following the MDAS
rule.
Very good! Correct.
D.Discussing new concepts and practicing
new skill #1

Our lesson for today is all about MDAS

which stands for Multiplication Division
Addition and Subtraction.

In solving mathematical expression involving

addition, subtraction, multiplication and
division, you need to follow an order of
operations. Always do Multiplication and
Division before Addition and Subtraction,
working from left to right for both (MDAS
rule).

This are the step in solving MDAS rule.

MDAS rule:

Step 1: First perform all multiplication and

division, working from left to right.

Step 2: Then perform all addition and

subtraction, working from left to right.

Example 1:

Evaluate 5 + 6 x 3 ÷ 3 - 9 using MDAS rule.

Step 1. 5 + 6x3 ÷ 3-9 Multiplication

Step 2. 5 + 18 ÷3 -9 Division

Step 3. 5+6-9 Addition

Step 4. 11 - 9 Subtraction
2

So 5 + 6 x 3 ÷ 3-9=2
Example 2:

Evaluate 9 - 15 ÷5 x 3 + 5 using MDAS Rule.

Step 1. 9 - 15 ÷5 x 3 + 5 Multiplication

Step 2. 9 - 15 ÷ 15 +5 Division

Step 3. 9 -1+5 Addition

Step 4. 9-6 Subtraction

9 - 15 ÷5 x 3+5 = 3

Example 3:

What operation will you perform first in the

expression 4 x 8 + 6 ?

Step 1. 4x8+6 Multiplication

Step 2. 32 + 6 Addition

38

4 x 8 + 6 = 38
Any question?

Very good!

To see if you really understand the lesson, let’s have

an activity.

Are you ready? None, ma’am.

Direction: Evaluate each expression.

1. 2x3+4=
2. 15 + 6 - 4 =
Yes, ma’am.
3. 4x3+4 x9=
4. 13 - 8 + 3 = (pupil’s doing the activity)
5. 13 - 1 x 2 + 4 (2) =

E.Discussing new concepts and practicing

new skills #2

Let’s have another more activities, but this time it will

be a group activity.

I will group you into 3 groups. But before I will

let you start to do your activity, what are the things
that need to be kept in mind when doing a group
activity?
Keep quiet, cooperate, be responsible and be
disciplined, ma’am.

Very good!

Direction: Tell whether each pair of

expression is equal or unequal. Write an
equal sign (=) if the pair of equation are
equal, and write (#) if the pair of expression
are unequal.

1. 8 + 8 + 8 + 8 ____ 4 x 2 + 8 + 8
2. 8 x 6 - 10 ____ 8 x 6 - 10
3. 10 x 2 x 3 ____ 10 x 2 x 3
4. 5 x 2 + 2 - 12÷ 4____ 12 ÷4 - 2 + 2 x 5
5. 3 x 3 x 2 ÷ 1 ____ 3 ÷ 1 x 3 x 2

3. 16___8___7= 15
4. 3___2___6= 7

H.Making generalization and abstractions
about the lesson

Now class I have a question.

What is our topic again?

Performing series of two or more operations
using MDAS rule, ma’am.

Very good.

What is the meaning of MDAS? Multiplication, Division, Addition, and

Subtraction, ma’am.

Very good!

Who can give me the first step in solving

using MDAS rule
Ma’am, First perform all multiplication and
division, working from left to right.
Very good.

What about the second and last step in

solving using MDAS rule?
Ma’am, perform all addition and
subtraction, working from left to right.

Very good, kids!

Give yourselves a round of applause.

I.Evaluating learners Direction: Solve the equation using the

MDAS rule.

J.Additional activities for application, Direction: Solve the following expression

assignment or remediation that shows series of operations. Follow the
MDAS rule, to get the correct answer.

1. 4 x 6 ÷ 3 + 8 =?
2. 17 x 3 + 2 =?
3. 5 + 8 ÷ 2 -7 =?
4. 12 x 5 – 42 + 20 =?
5. 4 ÷ 1 + 8 x 2 =?
