Lesson Plan in Mathematics 2

Learning Competency:
➢ illustrates and writes a related equation for each type of multiplication:
repeated addition, and counting by multiples.

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the Grade 2 Agoncillo will be able to:
• recognize the multiplication process by working with equal groups of
items,
• identify the multiplication as repeated addition,
• use repeated addition as a strategy to multiply two single-digit factors.

II. Subject Matter

Topic: Multiplication as Repeated Addition
Reference(s): Mathematics 2TG pp. 151-154
Materials: pictures, visual aids, drill cards and PPT.

III. Procedures
A. Preparatory Activities
✓ Opening prayer
✓ Greetings
✓ Checking of attendance
✓ Exercise
✓ Review of the previous lesson

What did we discuss yesterday? -Our lesson yesterday was about

Multiplication.

What are the terms used in multiplication? -The multiplier and

Product.
B. Lesson Proper
a. Activity
o Oral recitation
o The teacher will pick some students to answer the drill cards she
prepared.
o The students will use either, multiplication or addition to solve the
problem.

3 2
+ 2 + 1 1
3 2 +
X X
+ + 1
3 4 2 3 +
+ + 1
=8 =3
3 2 =3
= 12 =8

b. Analysis
o The teacher will show a picture and ask the following questions.
➢ I have 3 boxes, and each box contains 5 candies.

➢ How many groups are there?

➢ How many candies in each box?
➢ If you add all the candy in the three boxes, how much do you think the
candy will be in total?
c. Abstraction

Multiplication as Repeated Addition

Repeated addition is adding equal groups together, which is the same as the
multiplication. If the exact number is repeated addition is the form of
multiplication. For example,

Multiplication is repeated addition; each repeated addition can be written in two ways:

At this point when we use multiplication, we use also the addition that’s what we called
multiplication as repeated addition.

d. Application
Instruction: Solve for the product and show the repeated addition by
continuing the following patterns.
Example: 3x3=9
3+3+3=9

1. 5x4=
5+ =

2. 7x4=
7+ =

3. 2x5=
2+ =

4. 9 x 2 =
9 + ____ =

Groupings: There are 3 groups, in each group the teacher give them an answer
sheet.

IV. Evaluation

Instruction: For each set of number shapes, write repeated addition statements and the
matching multiplication statements.
V. Assignment
Instruction: Solve the following problem.
1. 6+6+6= 6x3=

2. 2+2+2= 2x3=

3. 4+4= 4x2=

4. 3+3+3+3= 3x4=
